Description:

I love zines, but I love books, too. Do you? Your challenge, then, is to write a book-themed zine. The theme can be expressed any way you like, whether it's a celebration of the library you used to visit as a child, or a passion for second-hand bookstores. You could write a collection of reviews, or just focus on different aspects of one book. You could write a story from the perspective of one of your favourite characters, or imagine what happened after a favourite novel ended. You could tell everyone about how the books you've read have influenced you, or talk about your own hand-made books. It's a zine, so maybe it will be a collection of all of these things and/or more! Feel free to include illustrations - you can include anything you like, so long as it fits the theme in some way.

Please make your zine with at least 5 sheets of approx. letter-size (US) or A4 (UK) paper. You can fold/cut it into whatever size/format you prefer, so with a single fold your zine will have 20 half-size pages (10pp), or if you cut it in half & then fold once, it will have 40 quarter-sized pages (20pp). These are just examples - you can play with more experimental formats, if you like, and you can use more (but not fewer) sheets of paper.

Your audience is readers, so try to make sure they have something to read! I'm making the send date 3 weeks after the sign-up date so you should have plenty of time to work on your zine. Have fun!

[N.B. Newbies with full profile will be considered, but please message me first. Otherwise, 4.5 ratings & above only please - I don't want anyone disappointed! I will go through profiles carefully before assigning partners, & will not accept anyone with only email swaps unless you message me first.)

I've just replied to a personal message I received about zines, but thought it might be worth posting the link that I replied with here, too: http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Zinemaking/Printversion - this page has all the basic info you need about making and writing a zine.

The only bits that aren't really relevant to this swap are the single-page zines, and the distro/selling section at the end, so it might be worth a read through, if you're new to zineland :-)

Bookish zines are en route to my partners: one in the U.S. and two in the U.K. Happy reading!
