Do you have any old time folk music in your collection? Maybe some rags or cakewalks. Maybe some off color ethnic comedy recorded on wax cylinder. Maybe a family singing about their hillbilly lifestyle or some cowboy campfire tunes. Good down home fiddlin' music about Jesus and commercials for cure-all potions? Well then join up here! Not exactly sure what I am talking about? Here are some good examples: http://tinyurl.com/nj83vl and http://tinyurl.com/l7lo8o If you don't already have a lot of this kind of music, a lot of it is free/out of copyright. Many songs are dnldable at http://cylinders.library.ucsb.edu/. The Library of Congress also puts out a lot of collections of this sort. In terms of time period, most of it would be pre-1940s, but a song of this genre could be recorded somewhere in Appalachia today and still be valid. Use your best judgment. It's supposed to be fun, so I am not putting a lot of rules on this. I'd love to see how many people are interested in traditional music! INCLUDE: a CD a tracklist Commentary on where you found the music would be great too, but not necessary. NEWBIES are welcome if they message me. FLAKERS--people who've flaked on any swaps in the last 6 months are not welcome! |
