Is this international?

user6859 06/29/2007 #

I started mine today... trying a new stitch out. Really like how it's going.

I wonder, when I was looking online for ideas I kept finding things for granny squares. I didn't really want to do any of these but thought that I would find out what everyone else was planning on making. Don't really want to be the odd duck. I know that there's a few other swaps just for Granny Squares so that's why I asked.

It seems like granny squares would be okay. I like to work with them. What say you, ADISIA?

lcove2000 07/16/2007 #

Are we sticking with the same partners or rotating or what? Also, Will this be monthly? December will just be a very hard month for me. Also, I would prefer to know if this is just random patterns or granny squares since they look quite different and joining them together would be kind of odd looking (IMHO) Thanks.Lisa

we'll skip december! to much for us moms to handle. grannies or any squares will work! just have fun! see what your partner likes and go for it

lcove2000~ You could always separate the squares into granny vs non-granny and make 2 smaller afghans or depending on how many you would have to make up you could make a few extras of each for yourself and make a larger one. Just an idea.

I'm having trouble finding patterns for 12 inch squares. Does the 12 inch square have to be a single square or can I make 4 6" squares and sew them together to make a 12" square? If not do you know where I find patterns for 12" squares? Thank you! Betsy Foster

Hi Betsy! Have you checked out Crochet Pattern Central? (awesome site! Full of links)

http://www.crochetpatterncentral.com/directory/12in_squares.php

The page is full of 12" square links!

Hag53 07/24/2007 #

Wow! Thanks so much. I did a search earlier but I didn't find any 12" squares, but I have them now! I know none of you know me, but I really can crochet! I've just never made a 12" square before and when I went to my patterns I realized that I didn't have any and like I said my search didn't connect me up to any so I started to panic! I'm really looking forward to this swap. I've been crocheting since I was nine years old and although I don't crochet for months at a time sometimes, I always come back to it as comfort really and sometimes sanity. Thanks for the prompt response to my panic! Betsy

I just finished my last one! I can't wait to get these out to my very lucky partners (if I do say so myself hehe).

I used several patterns from this book I got from the library 200 Crochet Blocks for Blankets, Throws, and Afghans: Crochet Squares to Mix and Match by Jan Eaton. It was so good I actually broke down and purchased it. The patterns in it are for 6" blocks but with a little tweeking on the kinds of yarn used it easily makes much larger squares (and if it still wasn't large enough there's always room for a few more rounds of boarder). Hope this helps!

Betsy! LOL, how funny! Don't worry, I'm a newbie here to! I'm actually sending you squares....and I'm trying to design a pattern....hmmmm.....it may not get to you this go around, but you will get a square!

Vivica, I usually use my 200 blocks.....we need a 200 blocks of 12 incher's! Wouldn't that be awesome..no more searching, and adding rows to the smaller squares....sometimes you end up just wanting to throw it!lol!! (only when on a deadline, lol!)

user6859 07/30/2007 #

ok i have a question for all participants. do you think i put up too long a time for us to work it out? should i start the next phase up early? how long do you think i should give everyone?

vivica9 08/ 1/2007 #

Just my 2 cents but I think that even with busy schedules that 2 weeks per square is enough. I know that I got mine done before partners were assigned so that helped too. But that's just me... I'm kind of nerdy that way.

Sallenlouise 08/ 1/2007 #

I agree with vivica! I would love for it to start early. Mine are made, just need to package them up.

Sallenlouise 08/ 1/2007 #

Betsy and Ophelia....The square is going to take me sometime to get right. Soo, I have made you 2 others. When I get the square worked out, I will mail you another, as well as the pattern! I will be mailing out your standby squares either tomorrow or Friday.

lcove2000 08/ 4/2007 #

Are we sending to the same partners or are you going to relist this swap for each month it continues? I happened to like the extra time (have a very busy schedule)Thanks.

user6859 08/ 4/2007 #

i guess we'll keep it the way it is then!

Sallenlouise 08/ 6/2007 #

Mine are mailed!!

vivica9 08/18/2007 #

mine will be out today!!

vivica9 08/18/2007 #

ok so the PO lady just kept squishing my envies... I just wanted to shout at her! Crazy people. Why don't they just ask "what's in it?" Wouldn't that make it better than trying to squish it all?

Sorry, had to vent. As you can see mine have started their journey.

Mine are in the mail!
