Description:

You are signing up to participate in a tip-in altered book swap. A tip-in is basically just like book altering, but instead of getting a book with pages to alter – you create pages to put in or to create an altered book. All tip-ins have different size requirements. For this one I would ask that you take an 8 ½ x 11 inch sheet of sturdy cardstock and turn it so that the height is 8 ½ and the width is 11. Fold the sheet across (horizontally) so you have a double page spread. Then alter away!!!

The theme for this swap is “hearts".. anything heart-themed from paper to embellishments.

You will have 2 partners and you will need to send one double page spread to each of your partners – and you will receive one back from each of your partners.

I would also like for you to make a signature tag for each of the double page spreads you send out so that if your pages are included in a book the owner can have info on all of the artists. Keep bulky embellishments away from the center of the page, and try to minimize too heavy embellishments.

I plan on posting more of these tip-in swaps, and I'm open to suggestions for future themes.

No one with more than 2 "no sends", please. If you have a low rating, please PM me to explain, or you will not be allowed in this swap. Everyone deserves to receive their tip-ins. Thanks!

This is my first time doing a tip-in. So any tips, specific Web sites, would be helpful.

Do we do both the front and back or only the front? This is my first tip in. I have altered books. Also what info do I put on the signature tag?

A Tip-in is an individual page or spread of pages (2 or more) used to alter a book.

They are decorated with art according to the theme of the swap or the book that it's going to be attached to.

Some are glued onto existing pages in a book that is being altered, and others are attached to the binding in one of several ways.

Sometimes you tear pages out of an old book., leaving a 1/2" stub to glue the tip in to, other times you take a 2-page spread, like these here, and stick them into a book, gluing the backs of the pages onto existing pages, or decorating the backs, too, you can stick the fold into the valley of the book and glue just there.

Google "altered books" and you'll find lots of examples and websites with more detailed how-tos. Cyn
