Description:

This swap is for everyone, like me, who acquires beads they are unlikely to ever use, but can't help coveting more. They are such pretty little things, and I always imagine I'll do something with them...

Participants will each send out one packet of AT LEAST ten beads to each of their partners (more are always better). These beads should be ready to use, rather than already made into jewelry. You can list ONE kind of bead you'd rather not receive, feel free to list the kinds of beads you love, but that's no guarantee you'll get them.

The idea here is you get to send out beads you already have, you don't have to buy new ones to send to your partner if you don't want to.

Package the beads inside a baggie or string them before you mail them in a (preferably) padded envelope.

Newbies are welcome. Anyone with no more than one "no send" may participate.

Happy beading!

Welcome! This is the first swap I've ever hosted, so I hope you have fun.

I would rather not receive seed beads, I have too many already and rarely use them.

I am particularly fond of ethnic beads.

dulcimer 07/ 5/2007 #

No seed beads for me either nor do i want huge honking plastic ones.Think bohemian or vintage. thanks Lin

SharonF 07/ 5/2007 #

For me, no seed beads, no plastic beads...I love glass beads (as I coveted beads, beads, beads)

HeideC 07/ 5/2007 #

Should these be temporary strung for shipping or just rolling loose in the (hopefully) padded envelope?

starrycat 07/ 5/2007 #

Please do not send me plastic beads...ANY kind of Plastic beads. I will not use them. I prefer glass beads, or stone/bone. Funky, Art deco beads, or ethnic. Shell beads are also cool.

ohsarajean 07/ 5/2007 #

No seed beads or plastic beads please. I like just about everything else :)

bethanne 07/ 5/2007 #

Ditto - I think we should all send glass beads. Mid size ones are the best. I can't wait, as I was just about to start a bead swap myself! I think we should have a monthly one like the tea swap!

ohsarajean 07/ 5/2007 #

Are they to be: *All of the same beads *Matching beads that can be used together *A random mix

?

bethanne 07/ 5/2007 #

I mean glass or stone beads.

storylaura 07/ 5/2007 #

Wow! What a great response!

  1. Please package them in smaller bags or temporarily string them. If they're loose in the envelope they are more likely to be damaged or roll all over the floor when we open the envelope. I'll modify the swap instructions momentarily.

  2. Some people may find plastic beads useful, there are some quite lovely plastic beads, and remember, you get what you get. We should all try to honor each other's preferences but again, limit your no's to 1 kind of bead so everyone can participate without having to buy stuff. Please try to be kind to each other here.

Thanks!

storylaura 07/ 5/2007 #

Oh, and I don't think they all need to be matching. Part of the fun of swaps is the surprise of what you get, not turning it into going to the store for exactly what you expected!

sarrah2 07/ 5/2007 #

hi! this sounds like fun. I am afraid i am going to have to voice a please no plastic beads as well.

HeideC 07/ 6/2007 #

Oh, I can't wait...I have some glass beads that look like chickens, black ones and white ones...and some that look like fried eggs...

storylaura 07/ 6/2007 #

This will be fun! I'm so glad people are signing up!

Avogana 07/ 6/2007 #

No plastic. Everything else is fine including seed beads, glass, stone, ceramic, resin, wood, etc.

SharonF 07/ 6/2007 #

Wow! I can't wait!

jcat 07/ 6/2007 #

please no plastic beads.

user8081 07/ 7/2007 #

I'll also ditto the no plastic beads. Anything else is great, especially funky or unique beads. Looking forward to sharing some great beads!!

caracois 07/ 8/2007 #

Please only decorated glass beads. Thanks and happy swapping!

user7539 07/ 8/2007 #

I'm a no for plastic or seed beads as well. I have a hard time holding or using very small beads(not to mention seeing! I swear I'm not blind...but getting there!) but I cannot stand plastic whatsoever.

I'm totally new on here, this will be my first swap. You can contact me if you'd like to know about other swaps NOT on swap-bot I've done. I used to run monthly ATC swaps on LiveJournal, I do tons of personal swaps, I've done Secret Pal and several textile/fiber type swaps as well so I'm not a newb at swapping, just swap bot!

user6532 07/ 9/2007 #

I especially like beads that look like objects, but no baby things, but cats dogs guns pumpkins etc are fine even if they are plastic...But if they are not objects I dco not need plastic or seed beads Thanks mariah

paperholic 07/10/2007 #

I have way too many beads - I keep buying them, thinking I will do something wonderful with them, but alas, the vast majority of them are still sitting in my (various) bead boxes. Maybe if I get some different beads I will end up doing something lovely with them - and if not, I can just do a Gollum and simply gloat over them! PS: this is an international swap, isn't it?

storylaura 07/10/2007 #

Paperholic, I'm exactly the same way with beads, that's why I set this up. And yes, it is an international swap.

storylaura 07/10/2007 #

Please note I changed the last day to sign up to July 19th, so you'll be getting your partners a little early. I have a conflicitng engagement and wanted to make sure I get you your partners on time. Thanks!

Griffie 07/11/2007 #

I would prefer no seed beads (I have too many!) or plastic beads, please. Can't wait for this swap to start!

user9569 07/12/2007 #

hello-this sounds like fun. i'm a newbie & excited to jump into the world of swapping. i have a great bead stash. i will have to say no plastic for me.

Lisapotterylady 07/12/2007 #

No plastic or seed beads for me either. I love bead swapping, just did one in another group and ended up with a lot of nice stuff. I have lots of glass beads so won't be sending plastic ones to anyone.

user7612 07/12/2007 #

no plastic or seed beads for me either. Any other beads are welcomed. I love purple glass especially. Thanks for the fun swap!

comradnic 07/13/2007 #

please no seed beads or plastic...or the color orange. i welcome anything fun and unique.

SapphireRobin 07/13/2007 #

Please no seed beads, I am okay with plastic if they aren't ugly or huge. I would prefer nothing really huge at all.

THANKS and I so look forward to this swap! :D

Beckster 07/13/2007 #

I love plastic beads! I use them for whimsical, fun badge holders for work (anything to make work more fun!). The glass beads get too heavy for a long lanyard with a name tag and scan key attached. I would request no seed beads.

Thanks!

yamikolynn 07/14/2007 #

HI BEADERS!! MY NAME IS YAMIKO. I JUST THOUGHT I SAY HI TO EVERYONE!! THIS IS MY FIRST TIME IN SWAP-BOT. I WOULD BE HAPPY TO EXCHANGE BEADS WITH ANYONE. HOPE TO HEAR FROM YOU. THANKS, LATER

handmadebyvera 07/14/2007 #

Please, no plastic beads. I love funky, unique, glass and ceramic beads. Great swap!

yamikolynn 07/14/2007 #

HEY BEADERS!! IT'S YAMIKO!! JUST THOUGHT I SAY HI TO YOU. JUST TO LET YOU KNOW THAT I WOULD LIKE TO SWAP BEADS WITH JUST US BEADERS. THANKS

storylaura 07/15/2007 #

Hi everyone, this is just a reminder that on the 20th partners will be assigned for the Bread Swap. Please follow swap-bot rules and let the swap-bot-bot assign partners. If you'd like to set up a private bead swap please use the swap-bot private swap system. Thanks.

storylaura 07/15/2007 #

Sorry - I meant the 19th. Partners will be assigned on the 19th for the bead swap. In the meantime, please wait until then to start swapping so everyone who wants to has a chance to sign up. Thanks!

StarGazerCrys 07/15/2007 #

I will gladly accept any beads, I like to deconstruct old/broken jewelry and make it into something else. I like funky charms, old watch faces, anything and everything I can make into jewelry. So, whatever beads/etc. you have lying around that whenever you see you go,"what the heck am I gonna do with this?"- I'll take it. :) Thanks! Crystal

Nanamint 07/16/2007 #

I'm just like Star Gazer Crys : I'll find a way to use almost any kind of bead ! Do you people like metal beads ?

Biff 07/17/2007 #

Oh I would like to play this game too please!

Looking forward to a pick n mix selection but please no tiny weeney bitty beads that I can't even pick up!

Thank you.

honeyspur 07/17/2007 #

No seed beads for me as well, please.

monkeycat 07/18/2007 #

I'd love most anything! I don't mind acrylic beads, but I don't really have a use for the big plastic pony beads. I make crochet wire jewelry, so things with slightly larger holes are better (think the holes on "e" beads and bigger).

shoppingformykids 07/18/2007 #

I'm excited about this, I love all beads, esp. sparkly beads or lampwork. I don't want ANY pony beads, please! Laurie Dyer

erikacass 07/19/2007 #

Hi all! I'm so excited, this is my first swap! I have tons of beads to destash so this will be great. :o) My faves are crystals, pearls, gemstones and vintage beads, especially lucite flower beads. Everything else is fine too including seed beads so I guess I would say no to...plastic pony beads! Erika

Tinkerbelle 07/19/2007 #

please no plastic or seed beads for me as well...

Moonwalkmazza 07/19/2007 #

I like glass, wooden, shell, metal, crystal, vintage, handmade, Fimo, paper, anything quirky or unusual really. I make jewellery from allsorts of things so if it's weird and wacky I'll probably like that too! I'd prefer no seed or plastic beads as I have loads of those already! Great swap!

Maz

saalis 07/19/2007 #

I'm another person who doesn't know what to do with plastic beads and has no use for that small an amount of seed beads. :)

I love silver beads, crystals, greens, pinks, purples, white, black... And handmade, unusual, vintage. I feel like I'm just copying other people but yeah. Thanks!

vardakeerutaja 07/20/2007 #

Only no is for Pony beads, everything else is ok!

paperholic 07/21/2007 #

I'd also say no to seed beads - I have enough already - but other than that, anything goes. Strange, quirky, unusual would be much appreciated - so if you have decided you will never use that day-glo pink grinning plastic skull bead, I'll be happy to accept it. (I've got no idea what I will do with it, and it will probably sit in my bead stash waiting for a never to come eureka moment, but what the hell!)

yamikolynn 07/21/2007 #

HI SWAP BEADERS!! JUST THOUGHT I SAY HI TO YOU. I LIKE ANYTYPE OF COLORS AND SIZES OF THE FOLLOWING BEADS. I LIKE THE FOLLOWING:CUBE BEADS-CAT'S EYES BEADS-BUGLE BEADS AND PONY BEADS. HOPE THAT HELPS. ENJOY THE SWAP!!

Dalwil 07/23/2007 #

Vardakeeruta and Art by ASM your beads went postal from New Zealand today Enjoy

Nanamint 07/24/2007 #

Maz and Erikacass I sent your beads from France today, I hope you recieve them soon !

user9569 07/24/2007 #

vardakeerutaja & Dalwil your beads shipped yesterday from Kansas -- not sure how long it will take for them to make it to Estonia & New Zealand. take care

poofsizzle 07/24/2007 #

No plastic for me please. :)

Avogana 07/25/2007 #

IS and Sarrah, I send your beads out yesterday, just didn't get a chance to mark them sent until now.

storylaura 07/26/2007 #

Dalwil and Tonkaamy, your beads went out today. Enjoy!

SapphireRobin 07/26/2007 #

I posted pics of my beads by the way :D

Avogana 07/27/2007 #

Robin, you're so lucky to have received yours! So many haven't even sent thiers out yet. One can only hope that means they are taking time to pick out some really special beads for their partners. Why, oh why is it so much harder to be patient when waiting for beads to arrive? ;-)

Griffie 07/27/2007 #

Monkeycat and Heidec - your packages went off in the the mail (not the great unknown, hopefully) yesterday.

Avogana 07/28/2007 #

If you haven't sent yet, please USE A PADDED ENVELOPE! I got my package today. A small paper envelope with a nice note from my partner. Clearly labeled with swatbot. Neatly slit open on one side where someone else took the beads! So if you haven't sent yet, please use a padded envelope so they don't know what's inside and DO NOT LABEL IT SWATBOT. Doing so will just tell others there are goodies inside to be had.

HeideC 07/30/2007 #

Monkeycat - your beads are on the way! yamiko schultz - Please contact me!!

user9569 07/31/2007 #

anne-thanks for posting that message, i always put swap or swap-bot on my envies... i didn't even think that this may entice someone to open the package. sorry about your package.

erikacass 08/ 3/2007 #

Sonia Almeida & Maz your beads went out yesterday, don't know how long it will take to get to you though. They're in round tins inside padded envelopes. :o) Nana from Paris I received my beads yesterday and love them but sadly one of them did get broken on the way; the red leaf one. I would have loved to use that one too. :o( I already know I'm going to use your grandmother's pearls in some jewelry for my twin daughters! :o) Once I get a chance to take a pic of the beads I'll get that posted.

Lisapotterylady 08/ 4/2007 #

Storylaura and Poofsizzle, your beads went out in the mail yesterday. And I received really nice ones from Biff and Mariah.

HeideC 08/ 4/2007 #

Griffie the beads made it and the shell ones are great!

Griffie 08/ 4/2007 #

Thanks for letting me know, Heide! I worried about those ones. Enjoy the package and thanks for the rating.

paperholic 08/ 5/2007 #

Beth Anne and Nana from Paris - your beads are in the mail from Australia. Unfortunately, I have only just seen the comment from Anne about not saying Swap Bot on the envelope and I have done just that (and said Bead Swap too) I have put sent them well wrapped so I am just going to keep my fingers crossed that they get to their destinations safely and unstolen.

erikacass 08/ 7/2007 #

BethAnne, I received the beads. Thank you! :o) I've uploaded images of both bead swaps I received in the gallery. Hoping to see more pics of everyone's bead goodies soon!

saalis 08/ 9/2007 #

Resent for Little Kitty today, sorry. -.-

comradnic 08/ 9/2007 #

i still haven't received my beads from little kitty....

Avogana 08/10/2007 #

I haven't received my beads from Little Kitty either. Like several others, she didn't mark sent until the last days of the swap, so maybe they're still in the mail? You and I are on opposite sides of the USA and sent things back and forth a few times during this swap, but if she's overseas it could take much longer than it did for us. At least that's what I tell myself each day it's not in the mailbox.

comradnic 08/10/2007 #

well, saalis sent me one all the way from finland and it arrived in a very timely fashion

comradnic 08/10/2007 #

i sent little kitty an e-mail a couple of hours ago, hopefully i'll find out when/ if i can expect a package. perhaps she doesn't have internet access right now....

comradnic 08/11/2007 #

little kitty sent me a message saying that she sent the package out yesterday, so as soon as it actually arrives, i'll post confirmation on here

paperholic 08/13/2007 #

Sandramatos - I received your beads today - they arrived safe and sound and are lovely. Isis

user7539 08/14/2007 #

Well my beads came back today. I had weighed it all at the post office and applied stamps accordingly to be told I was 3 cents short on each package. GRRR! I'm sending them back out again tomorrow guys! Sorry about this!

Avogana 08/14/2007 #

I just received my beads from Little Kitty. Comrad-Nic, that means you should have yours in the next day or two as well.

paperholic 08/20/2007 #

Beckster - your beads arrived safe and sound. Thanks very much
