Description:

Your mission should you choose to accept it, is to build a RED Coptic stitch journal. I figure I'd start us out relatively easily, Coptic stitch is fairly simple and there are some great videos on YouTube :)

For this challenge you need to incorporate the color RED. It could be a red cover, red signatures, red thread, etc... but there HAS to be red in the book somewhere.

The fine print: I'd like us all to get roughly the same as we send out, so I'm going to put some fairly strict guidelines on my swaps. Your journal must be somewhere between 5-8.5" large and fairly thick. I usually do 10 signatures of 5 pages each, and that gives me 200 pages both sides. It's usually about 1/2-3/4" thick and that's a pretty good thickness, so that's what we're aiming for. Of course if you were to use water color paper for your signatures you would less, but still aiming for the 1/2-3/4" thickness.

Please remember to send something you love. If you make a journal and really, really don't want to send it because you love it so much, then you know its good enough.

Any questions or comments, please feel free to post them here, in the forums, or send me a PM.

Happy Binding :)

Watching...personal goal to send out 3 more swaps before I commit :)

Size - would 8.5" be OK? A5 format (A4 folded in half) makes the pages 8.25" tall, so with the cover being a little bigger that would be about 8.5". For the US, 8.75" might be better (half Letter size + the bit extra) It would save the bother of timming off that half inch or so on all the sheets ...

Sure, we can pump it up to 8.5.

Thanks!

Just wanna make sure I get this right. So it's 5 pieces of 8-1/2x11 paper, folded in half (makes 10 leaves, or 20 page sides)...that's one signature. Sew together 5 signtures for 100 page journal. Anyone want to confirm my math, please?

smokeyquartz1980 01/25/2010 #

sorry, it was my math that was crappy :) 5 folded pages to a signiture + 10 signitures =200 pages (mine are actually 198 because I glue the first one and last one to the covers for end pages) I'm editing the swap description now.
