Description:

This is a picture of a beautiful piece of art found on Flickr We will create for our partner a beautiful handmade shoulder purse/bag (small to medium size) at least 8"x9" or more with shoulder strap or shorter straps (you might ask your partner what they prefer), It will be similar to the creation in the picture from on Flickr with that old world, somerset style. This will be like a scavenger hunt challenge swap as you will be tasked with using the following somewhere in your creation:

  1. a piece of upholstery or other heavy weight fabric or a regular weight fabric that you've lined so it's substantial enough for a purse bag (remenants are just fine)

  2. a selection of beads (no plastic or acrylic). please use either nice glass beads or semi-prec. stone beads or metal or bone. They could be sewn on as a dangle from the strap, or at the bottom of the purse or as a zipper pull etc. Use your imagination.

  3. a collage type art decoration (like in the pic) which does not have to be a picture, it can also be a pretty printed fabric that you've cut smaller than the purse itself and can be layered with other solid fabrics or other prints. Or textured fabrics too, like burlap, or linen, fur, etc.

  4. a button or buttons (either new or vintage)

  5. a pocket inside for carrying drivers liscense, credit card etc. (optional)

  6. one re-purposed item. like for instance you might use the leg of a pair of denim jeans for your fabric or a piece of jean fabric for a decoration, or a pocket from jeans, or a shirt etc.. Or something from or part of a blouse, coat, wool sweater etc. it could be a buckle, a charm, tassels, trim, a rhinestone pin for decoration, a strap from another purse, etc.

This does not have to be as difficult as it might sound. I'm just hoping that people will want to put some thought into the design process as well as the creation itself. So it will be a nice bag for your partner to carry daily.

Since this is lightweight, it will be International. So postage probably will not cost much because it should not weigh much. Must have at least a 4.7 rating and no 1's or 3's in recent months. If you flake, you will be banned from the group.

Please read your partners profile for color choice, likes and dislikes etc. but ultimately, it's SENDERS CHOICE. Make this something they are going to want to carry all the time. I love the one's I have for shopping, antiqueing, flea market shopping etc. It's a fun litlte bag that you can put a few necessary things in and be on your way.

When you receive your bag, please take time to rate your partner and host accordingly. Please leave them a comment and not just a number rating because it's always nice to receive and it shows our gratitude for their work.

If you have any questions, please pm me directly. I've given plenty of time to complete so please don't wait till the last minute.

By upholstery, do you mean any heavyweight fabric? I just want to make sure! Thank you!

I will be keeping this in mind, since I really only hand sew. I need to go to the goodwill for inspiration before I commit!

homeandheart, any heavy weight fabric or lightweight (which could be then lined) would do. as long as it's purse weight. which i like to use upholstery fab's for. but you don't have to. i just listed that as inspiration.

i really hope those watching will join, it's not as difficult as it might sound. you don't even have to have great sewing skills, it could even be mostly handsewn if you don't have a machine. the sky's the limit and imagination is a plus!

I would love mine to be hand-washable if possible due to the allergies I have, but if it isn't possible for my partner that is fine - sender's choice rules apply! ;)

Gonna watch for now - I'd love to try this and we'll see how the timing works out! :)
