Description:

@ladystephanie had a great swap idea, which we made into a slightly different version and offered publicly, and now I am adapting it again for this group.

Create a zentangle sampler... a 3.5 inch square, divided into 9 sections so it looks like quilt squares (or divide it up another way, as long as you retain nine different design sections, if it suits your zentangling style more effectively!)

Fill each of the 9 sections with a different zentangle design. Make three copies of your sampler on cardstock, or attach to cardstock, leaving a border of about half an inch or so around the edges. The border will allow your partner to attach their fill samplers together in whatever manner they choose.

Send one zentangle sampler to each of three partners. (Keep the original for yourself) You will receive 3 different samplers, which you can then use to start your own zentangle sampler pattern book! You can holepunch, and store on a metal ring, or put them straight into a folder, or start a zentangle moleskin... you decide what your sampler storage will look like.

If there is any interest we will do another round or two of samplers to try to build up own sampler books.

All of the group requirements regarding 1's, 3's, etc, apply here as well.

Just wondering - should they be 'official' zentangle patterns (eg from zentangle.com ) or can they be original/made up fill patterns?

I didn't even know there WERE official patterns! No, definitely made up patterns. I mean official ones if those are the ones you love, but put as much uniques variety into your sampler as you can...that way we will each get lots of different pattern ideas to use.

Ok...let me get this straight... "leaving a border of about half an inch or so around the edges" ... does this mean the 3.5 inch square now becomes a 4.5 inch square (half inch on all sides?)

I guess I'm a bit thick... but I want to do the swap right and not disappoint my partners.

Excellent question! (Vague description!) Yes, that's right. Make a 3 1/2 inch zentangle square... divide it into 9 sections... you decide whether they will be equal squares or random shapes, fill EACH section with a different design.

Attach to something a bit firm, like cardstock (or draw it on there to start) Then leave about a 1/2 inch border around the edge (or more). Your partner can remove that if they want to, OR they can use it somehow to bind their samplers together. If we enjoy this swap, we can do more, so you will end up with a book of zentangle fill ideas. (It was @ladystephanie s idea!)

That was a lot of words to say yes, it will be at least 4.5 inches.

Gotcha! ... Thanks!
