Description:

I often muse over the fact that as a stay-at-home mom and housewife by choice, I've chosen a somewhat unusual path for myself, a real anomaly amongst my career-oriented friends. Sometimes it can be frustrating, but for the most part I enjoy my days full of chores and errands, budgeting, caring for my daughter and puppy, sometimes having time to craft and write and daydream. The days are my own, in a way, and the joys are simple but they are definitely there to be found!

For this swap, I'm calling other housewives/househusbands (married, partnered, single, with or without children in the house) to get together and exchange little joy journals about their experiences.

The task is simple: you'll have one partner, and you'll send them a nice decorative journal (one you buy, or one you decorate yourself). But before you send it, I ask that you take a week in your life and each of seven days jot down one thing that gave you real pleasure. These notes can be a word or a sentence, a page or a paragraph--no rules--about something each day that made you happy:

anything at all, from the mundane to the truly spectacular!

you wrote a poem, or you managed a great costume for your child's play; you found a sale on your fave ice cream, you checked off everything on your to-do list; everyone liked the dinner you cooked, you had clean fresh sheets, you read a wonderful book, you baked a loaf of bread, you and your spouse had a good long chat...you get the idea!

After you've filled in a week of small (or big!) blessings, send the journal along to your partner, who can then continue the exercise as long as they like.

I've found in the past that these little journals or lists can help you appreciate yourself and your life just a little bit more.

The swap is open to those with 4.9 ratings and no 1s, or newbies with thick profiles. I need to see that you've logged in at least a couple of days before I assign partners.

I hope you'll join, as I'm really looking forward to it! Feel free to pm me with any questions.

p.s. I will be happy to angel this one! I won't mind sharing a little more of myself...

Hi, I have a question, do you ,mean we decorate the front and back covers, or pages inside?

naddie 05/17/2010 #

awww nerds! I read the whole description and was about to click when I saw that it was regional >.<

leahsimone 05/17/2010 #

faye--it can be just a nice journal you purchase, or one you decorate if you like.

naddie--maybe I'll change this one to international, as the journal is a simple and inexpensive thing to mail!

This sounds like a really fun swap BUT...yes, its a warning...make sure that everyone playing will follow through. I've done two journal swaps and never received any of those journals even though I did send out mine. It was very disappointing to put all that work into it and pay for mailing to find out that my partners did not do theirs for me. One was international, the other regional. I would like to play but will watch for now. Just sharing some friendly advice.

Hi Normsgal! flaking is, unfortunately, a risk we take with every swap, which is why I set the standards high for joining. I've been flaked on quite a bit, and I'm sure journal swaps don't pose an extra risk, beyond the usual.

Anyway, I will angel this one, as it is sweet, simple, and to the point.

Is there a specific size journal we should get? Can we use a composition notebook if we nicely decorate the covers inside and out? I have a ton of ideas swirling and I'm just trying to work them out. :)

leahsimone 05/27/2010 #

Definitely! That's a great idea.

(no specific size; whatever you like!)
