What follows are the instructions I found when searching for the earliest version of this swap. It was started by user1390 in May of 2006. I have limited this to Canada and the USA as it may be a bit expensive to send. A magic yarn ball is a gift-filled treasure, made for another person. This sweet, simple project comes from the book The Children's Year (Hawthorn Press). Basically, you wrap cool little treasures up in a ball of yarn, with a few beautiful gifts peeking out at the edges, and give it as a gift. As the recipient crafts with the yarn the treasures fall out one by one, and they discover the fun as they knit or crochet. This is a swap of magic yarn balls. Each one should include at least 100 yards of yarn and 6 "treasures," from very special single buttons or beads to little sets of stitch markers, tapestry needles, or very special bits of vintage ribbon and fabric. Round toys such as superballs or homemade bottlecap pincushions make excellent centers for starting your ball. Read your partners profile to get an idea of what type of treasures to include. Also, anyone playing please share any fiber allergies you have. You only have one partner so do your best to send something you would like to get for yourself. ******First of all this is profile-based, so make sure your profile is up-to -date, Second if you have an allergy make sure it is in your profile that is where it needs to be Third-This is not about the fiber as much as it is about what is hidden in the fiber. In the end the fiber choice is the senders not the receivers ******* DO NOT MAKE COMMENTS ABOUT CHOICES HERE-THEY NEED TO BE IN YOUR PROFILE! I have three more weeks until I assign partners and I will cancel if I think people are getting too picky. Lets have fun and treat our partners well If everyone does that it will be a great swap. Sign ups close at the end of June. Play begins in July, and packages must be sent by the last day in July. A few pictures of a sample yarn ball can be seen at the whipup post here: http://whipup.net/2006/04/25/kids-yarn-project-the-magic-wool-ball/ there are a few more here, http://www.flickr.com/groups/magicyarnball/, as well The Basics: At least 10 type 2/type 3 swaps. No ones without a reasonable explanation. Any 3's and you will be banned. This is for thoughtful swappers and quality is important. Make sure your profile is well filled out as what you say there will determine what type of gifts you get. I will be checking profiles and if I think you are shady I will ban you without explanation. No minimum amount to spend but please don't use that as an excuse to skimp. Make it a joy to give and receive |
