Description: | |
Persephone was the Greek goddess of spring - until she was kidnapped by the king of the Underworld, and became a goddess of death. Her mother - Demeter, goddess of fertility, was so distraught she let all the crops wither. So Zeus ordered Persephone to be returned - if only she had not eaten any food in the underworld. Alas, she had consumed 6 pomegranite seeds - so he decreed that from then on she spend 6 months in the underworld, and six with her mother - and hence, the seasons were born. For this swap, draw/paint an ATC inspired by this Greek legend! You could do a scene, a character, a location, even something more abstract/conceptual. There are many different retellings of the story online to inspire you - from the ancients to the present day. You could look up Greek and Roman pots or mosaics, Medieval illuminations, paintings from every generation down to modern comics. You could even research different aspects of Persephone than in this story (there are other legends featuring her; she was worshipped in many different aspects - the Romans called her Proserpina) This story has so many beautiful images, and basic themes like light/dark, youth/age, summer/winter I don't know how I'll decide what to draw! |
