Description:

This 2 part swap is @snailgirl 's idea - thx dear!

Finding matching fabrics can be half the fun of creating a project, but sometimes it can be hard to find just the right fabric to coordinate. It's also interesting to see how different people match fabrics that we would never think to pair up.

For part 1 of this swap, you will send your partner a swatch (minimum 5" or 12.5 cm square) of fabric in your stash that has been waiting to be used. This is the easy part and must be mailed by June 28.

For part 2 of this swap, you will search high and low in your stash and/or local fabric stores to find a fabric that you think is the perfect complement to your partner's fabric swatch. When you find the ideal match, you will send your partner half a yard or 45 cm so they can create something amazing! This must be mailed by August 20. (You do not need to return the swatch unless your partner asks for it back.)

For this to work you will need to send the sample swatch to the partner who is actually supposed to be sending TO YOU so you will be able to rate them when they send you your half yard of matching fabric. After assigning partners, I will send everyone their partner's mailing info.

I think this should give everyone enough time but if you think we need longer for the second part, please pme me to discuss. Thx.

Please note that missing either deadline could result in being rated a 3.

No solids are allowed, and all fabric must be be 100% quilting cotton.

This is open to all NFS members in good standing but please see my profile for how I screen participants.

Any questions, please pm me.

Have fun!

P.S. I really hope it doesn't come to this, and I am going to be really strict in my screening, but I will make sure that anyone who is flaked on will be angeled. Any flakers will be the topic of a serious discussion with the other co-founder and officers, and probably banned from the group forever.

This is so intriguing! Can I say that eventually I would like to see what my partner makes? There's some clever girls out there.

Great idea. I hope you run it again later in the fall. I'm swamped with other stuff in my life right now but I would love to do this one.

Thx to @kathrinem for bringing the rating issue to my attention! I forgot that it is more complicated when more than 2 perople are involved in a swap like this. (";)

For this to work you will need to send the sample swatch to the partner who is actually supposed to be sending TO you so you will then be able to rate them.

I will contact everyone about this and will also adjust the dates a bit.

If anyone has already sent to the "wrong" partner, my apologies, and I will reimburse postage to anyone wishing it.

Mailed my swatch to @snailgirl today.

Hi all in this swap...you know I always think it is a shame that once partners are assigned, we usually stop using this space. I think it would be fun to keep up a dialogue about the swap and how it is going, etc....

I am finding it harder than I thought it would be. I got my swatch from mega54 and now I am wondering if she had some particular project in mind or if I am free tojust let my imagination go wild!? :-)

Of course, if no one else is reading this then I am talking to myself....again! :-)

I would say that unless your partner said what she was using it for when she mailed you the swatch, you have carte blanche to choose the matching fabric.

This is supposed to be fun, not nerve-wracking! lol And to open our eyes to something we might never have otherwise considered.

When I received your swatch, Ky, I was all ready to go out and look for fabric but then decided to check my stash just in case. After all, I love blue and yellow! I found not one but 4 different pieces perfect for it, so needless to say I was just thrilled! I hope you are too dear! Mailing it today. (";)

Ohhh....you are quick! I will stalk the mail carrier now. :-) Now I will have to think up a project to use it in.

I'm still thinking about Mega54's swatch, it is a batik and I'm not sure if I should come up with another batik that matches or something different. Still thinking........

snailgirl 07/ 6/2010 #

ooh... batiks are so hard to match with... I am scared of them... ha ha...

I got Terrys swatch today... I cant wait to get to the fabric store... my mind is churning with options... yay!!

ozduchess 07/15/2010 #

I received my fabric from mega54 today. I wouldn't have picked it, but that's why I went in this swap. Others see things differently to me and it was worth it:)

snailgirl sent me TWO pieces of the most beautiful and perfectly matched fabric! Thx to her for suggesting this fun swap!
