Description:

This swap was inspired by the Naked Notebooks! (A mail art challenge!) swap hosted by @TangleCrafts -- thanks for your blessing to host a store-bought version!

While I love handmade and altered things, sometimes I snatch up store-bought goodies when they're just too pretty to resist! This of course, leads to having far more cute little notebooks than I need, so I figure a good way to re-cycle them is to pass them on and receive new ones in return.

For this swap, you will send 2 store-bought, already-prettified (not plain!) notebooks to 2 partners as naked mail. It will be sender's choice as to the notebook sent, but check your partners' profiles to see if you can find one they'll love.

Be sure to write a short note to your partner on the inside of the notebook to let them know who sent it, along with anything else you'd like them to know.

Since your naked notebook will already have a decorated cover, putting the address on will be part of the challenge - something to think about when selecting a notebook! Be sure the destination address (and your return address) are legible and the postage is not going to fall off.

If your notebook doesn't come with some type of closure, think about how you will keep it together in transit -- or if you will let the postal gods decide its fate! If sealing it, make sure it's in a way that lets your recipient unseal it without hurting their new notebook.

By the numbers:

  • 2 naked, store-bought notebooks sent, 1 to each of 2 partners, and thus 2 naked, store-bought notebooks received.

  • minimum size of 3.5" x 5.5" (approximately 9cm by 14cm for you metric folks)

  • Notebook pages can be lined, blank, or gridded.

  • Please make sure the notebook comes with at least 20 pages or so of blank paper for your partner to use. (The 3.5 x 5.5" Moleskines come with at least 80 pages, and others I've found on Amazon have even more than that, so I don't think this will be a problem.)

  • Before sending your notebooks, scan or photograph both sides with your partners' addresses on them so there is evidence that you sent it if anything goes missing. If you can get proof of mailing from your local post office, that's even better. If nothing arrives from your partner 4 weeks from the send-by deadline, ask them for this photo and any other proof of sending they may have. If they are able to provide the photo to you, go ahead and rate them with a 5 (and hope the postal service hurries up with the delivering part). If they do not have the evidence of sending, you may rate a 1.

Participant Requirements

(stolen from @TangleCrafts verbatim)
You already had to have a rating of 4.9+ with no recent no-sends, 1s or 3s to join this group anyway, so the same stands for this swap. But I will still double-check before assigning partners, so if you have what you feel is an unfair comment or rating, just PM me & we can try to work it out. :-)

Discussion

Can we state preferences, here in the comment section, for the type of paper--lined, blank, or grid? or should we put that on our profile?

@melusina I'd say you can put a preference here in the comments section and hopefully that preference can be met, but since it'll be sender's choice, it isn't required that your partners send the kind you like best.

I have a preference for my notebooks to be grid paper (also called quad-ruled, graph paper). 2nd choice: blank (no lines). Thanks!
