Description:

In this swap you will make and send your partner 5 handmade envelopes. Please make them from decorative papers (scrapbook, handmade, textured, wallpaper, etc.). No plain colored envelopes allowed.

  • 4 of them should be the "standard" 4-sided rectangle shape for mailing cards & letters.

  • 1 of them should be an "unusual" shape; something other than 4-sided.

When you make the unusual shaped envelope, you will also make a card to go inside that is shaped the same as the envelope. This card/envelope you will be making for your partner to enjoy; so write a short (or long note inside), perhaps about how you chose what to make or about your day, etc.

If you've never made envelopes before, now is the time to start. They are very easy & fun, and they help brighten up the postal world of "boring white envelopes!" If you need tutorials; search online. You can also gentle take apart any envelope, trace around it, and make your own templates. For the unusual shaped one, if you can't find something online to help you, you'll have to get creative. I created my own from a card shape I cut.

This swap is sender's choice, so you can get started on your envelopes right away.

Everyone is welcome, but no 1s or 3s in the last 12 months. Newbies, you must have a well-filled out profile. I will check everyone out before assigning partners, and reserve the right to ban anyone I think might flake. No one likes flakers; please play nice!

I'm in!!! Had to find an "unusual" shape envelope. That was tricky!!!!

Thanks to everyone who has signed up to play so far.

@funkhoup I totally agree that it was tricky to find an unusual shape. I finally found one and then it took me awhile to make the envelope template around it - LOL!

Okay still watching one question... Can I cut the unusual shape card/envie using my cricut cartridge I have? It has some odd shapes I can do. Like circle and triangle, etc.

Do the rectangle envelopes have to be a certain size? I started playing around with making some today. Most of them are note card size, about 3x4 or 3x5. Would those be okay?

usps.com has specifics under section to "calculate domestic and/or international postage" about what constitutes a letter envelope that can be mailed for standard postage, including sizes and allowable ratio/proportion of sides

Thanks for the tip, Lou. I checked and these should be fine as far as mailing them out.

hmm indeed the unusual shape is harder than I was expecting! I have four other lovely ones made though!

Cards are usually sent like tiggerkitn said 3 x 4 or 3 x 5 and letters I send are usually rectangle. So I understand making 5 envies 3 x 4 or 3 x 5 is okay and rectanular ones are like legal size envies right? Because if we don't get it right someone in the swap may give you a 3 because of wrong size. I like any size and prefer larger ones.

I copied this from USPS...

Minimum size for Postcards and Letters 5" long x 3-1/2" high

Maximum size for Letters 11-1/2" long x 6-1/8" high

Maximum thickness for Letters 1/4" thick

Unusual Shapes and Sizes Sometimes a piece of mail requires additional postage because it is a certain shape or size that is difficult to process on mail sorting machines. To make sure you’re paying the correct postage, visit pe.usps.com. These are examples of mail that could require additional postage: · Square envelopes · Envelopes on which the address is written parallel to the shorter edge square

AND AN EXTRA TIP from me...Note that letters go through sorting machines. If your envelope is stuffed in the middle & thin on the edges (uneven thickness)...the edges WILL bust open going through these machines. It's always a good idea to tape around the edges :]
