RAK for the Lyon's Den Rescue, Inc My 15 year old daughter, Rachael, is raising money for a local no kill shelter, The Lyon's Den Rescue, Inc. Rachael is an animal lover and wants to become a vet, so this is a cause that is very dear to her heart. www.lyonsdenrescue.com/index.html www.petfinder.com/shelters/PA208.html Last summer she did a bake sale and put donation jugs in local businesses as well as asked everyone she came in contact with for donations and raised $71. This year her goal is to raise at least double that amount. She has all summer to raise money and will turn the money in on 9/11/10 at the Lyon's Den's largest event The Canine Carnival. After posting in the forums to see if other Swap-botters had any fund raising ideas and some brainstorming, one thing she would like to do is set up on weekends at our local gas/convience store and sell hand crafted items. Her and I are both working on something for this, but she would love any help that she can get with hand crafted items. I also did a swap like this in June for handmade/handcrafted items. So this swap is to help her with items that she can sell to raise money for the Lyon's Den Rescue, Inc. She is able to set up a table outside our local gas/convience station to sell these items. Last Saturday she collected $30, between selling items from her table and donations. Here's how it will work.... Send 2 items (more if you would like) that you think Rachael may be able to sell to raise money for the Lyon's Den Rescue, Inc. The items can be handmade/handcrafted or purchased. The items can be animal related or not. Take a picture of the items. Mail the items to Rachael with a note telling her what you might charge if you sold each item.. I will email you the mailing address when partners have been assigned. Send your partner a email about what you sent and a picture(s) of what you sent. As Rachael receives the items, I will take pictures of them and post them to a blog about her fundraising (the link is on my profile), so that everyone can see what she has received. I will update the blog regularly, both with what she has received and what she has sold. Any items that she does not sell, we will make a nice basket with them and put the basket in the Chinese Auction that the Lyon's Den Rescue holds at their Canine Carnival on 9/11/10. Some suggestions for items that I received from my forums post: animal related plushies animal related cards cat nip pouches chipboard photo albums shaped like animals sets of bottlecap magnets tea wallets sewn out of cute animal fabric catnip mice shrinkydink earrings @crescendo said her sister made her a cat and mouse pair of shrinkydink earrings) The items do not have to be animal related and you can make items other than what is listed above. This is the list that I had posted on the swap for handmade/handcrafted items, and are only suggestions: Some other suggestions might be: jewelery ( necklaces or earrings or bracelets) hairbands or bows keychains knitted or crocheted dish/wash clothes ( there are lots of patterns on line with different designs or plain is fine) suncatchers (this is something Rachael is doing) small paintings or drawings pin cushions dog biscuits ( my neighbor makes peanut butter flavored dog biscuits) needlebooks bottle cap pin cushions magnets small dolls bookmarks handmade post cards Just about anything. Since this is not profile based, you can start on your items before partner's are assigned. I am going to leave this open to everyone, but will ban anyone who I think maybe questionable. I am hoping since this is an RAK that will benefits rescued animals and help a teenager raise money for these animals that there will be no flakers. If need be, I will angel the email part of the swap. If you have any questions, comments or suggestions, please feel free to PM me or leave them here. Thank you from both Rachael and myself! Note: If you have an Etsy store or other business/website that you sell these items at, you are more than welcome to attach a business card or tag with your information to your items. The picture for this swap is of our dog, Molly Jo, was a rescue that we adopted. |
