A couple of days ago I just planted a new pink hydrangea bush where I had pulled out some ugly shrubbery. When I bought the plant, it had a huge cluster of blooms that had snapped off and was just hanging by a thread. I babied it bringing it home because I am thinking, "Hmmmn, I know hydrangeas make nice dried flowers . . ." So anyway, the bloom cluster is now hanging upside-down on a tiny lampshade in my bedroom, and as I was examining its drying process this morning, I thought, "Shabby chic altered flowers!" I googled altered flowers, and the rest is history! For this swap, you are going to have a ball - I hope. I know I will. You will purchase, thrift, repurpose, borrow, beg, or steal some artificial silk flowers. They can be velvet or flocked or whatever, but I don't think plastic would look good. Maybe, if they are high quality to start with. You are then going to take these flowers apart and reinvent them. You can dye, ink, stamp, chalk, glitter, layer with other fabrics, ribbons, tulles, laces, gems, jewels, whatever - to create - TaDa! Altered Flowers for your partners. Also, here's a link for the turorial and website where I got the picture for this swap: HERE Here are the details: You will make four flowers - 2 flowers each for 2 partners. (Make some extras for yourself!!) This is sender's choice of colors, but please, nothing neon or garish - remember we are a faded, chippy kind of group. ;-) Flowers must be at least two inches in diameter, but can be larger. Package prettily and pad well so they will not crush. Send on or before send-by date. It goes w/o saying that there should be no flakers in this group of lovely people , but I will angel on this if it should become necessary. |
