The pretty "purses" in this photo are by Becky Shander in the newest addition of Somerset Life. I have been making something similar for several years. It is funny I never thought of them as "purses" before reading this article. I have made them as tiny gift pockets to hang on the Christmas tree, just big enough for a pair of earrings, or other tiny gift. I also made a garland of them two years ago for my daughter's advent calendar, all numbered with a little chocolate santa in each one. For this swap you will create one tiny pocket for your partner, altered and decked out. Then you will put a few trinkets of whimsey to fill it up. Maybe a little piece of velvet ribbon, a pretty glass button, and a little pair of dresden wings. Or perhaps a fun piece of ric rac, a little vintage charm and some fleur de lys that you punched out of aged book pages. Just a couple of little trinkets to add to their stash. This pocket is very tiny. It is extremely simple to make. You will take a paper towel roll, cut off approximately 3 1/2 inches. You then pinch and secure one end (glue, tape, or staple) closed. This creates the pocket. You can curve down the front edge a little if you like, or round the corners a little, then decorate/alter your pocket. Lastly, add a little handle, wire, chenille stems, ribbon etc, place your items of whimsy inside and send off to your partner! So cute, so fast and so tiny! Have fun!! There should be no flakers in this group, but if someone goes rogue I will angel this swap! |
