Description:

Hi everyone! I heard all your ideas in the the ideas thread and have come up with my first swap. I will be pulling from that thread as I make more swaps and welcome my fellow officers to do the same. The people have spoken! (hehe)

Christmas is on the way and everyone is busy getting together their decorations and presents for the big day. I am getting ready for something entirely different since I'm due Christmas day, but I digress. This swap is about those fun to make Christmas tree ornaments.

You have 1 partner that you will send 2 owl ornaments to: owl buddies! Follow the pattern linked at the bottom and embellish it any way you see fit. You can bead it, embroider it, paint it or whatever. It doesn't have to be sewn. It doesn't have to be felt. You can knit it, crochet it... anything you like as long as it fits the dimensions of the original pattern. This is about creating an amazing ornament by interpreting a pattern in your favorite medium.

Please do your best, but don't stress yourself. Make something you would want, of course, but also make sure it fits the pattern guidelines. All the embellishments in the blog post are optional. You do NOT have to make it identical to Jessica's owls. For instance, the felt shapes could be crocheted and the eyes could be buttons. See? All we're looking for is a basic shape and your amazing creativity. These parts are essential: body, eyes, beak and wings. If your intimidated by the "make it your own" style of creating and all you want to do is follow the pattern, don't worry, we won't tell. ;)

I love owls and really want to join, but I'm vegan so don't want to get wool owls (the pattern specifies wool). I'll watch for now.

Can the people who are joining please chime in if they are using animal fibers? When the join date gets close I will weigh the probability and decide whether or not to join. Thanks much!

user2637: I would be happy to do this as a private swap with you so you don't have to worry about animal fibres. Please pm me if you are interested.

Brooklyne: Not trying to steal your swap participants dear! Just trying to help out! (";)

Great Swap, I can't wait! :)

I will definitely be joining when the sign up date gets closer and I have taken care of some swaps.

I will be crocheting mine, no wool. I will use Acrylic and/or Cotton!

Keeping an eye out, 2 jobs are getting in the way of my crafting.

Okie-doke, bust out your wool! I'm going to do a private swap with @TerryF so maybe that will get some of the watchers off the watch list and onto the join list! :)

Now that this swap is getting closer, I think I may change my mind and try to make the felt owl! I'm not sure yet as I have never done one. I may make one crocheted and one felt! So, whoever is my partner will definitely be surprised! :)

Do we attach a string or ribbon to the owl to be able to hang it as an ornament?

Brooklyne 11/23/2010 #

@roosje Yes. Of course. :)
