The spend amount has been set to "up to $40". That does NOT mean YOU HAVE TO spend $40. That means it is up to you to spend anywhere up to $40.

If you are crafty and want to make something for your gift recipient, GO FOR IT! Home-made is sometimes best-made.

It is up to the gift giver for whether or not they give for their recipient's dog or for the human recipient. Also, if you get someone with more than one dog, do not feel obligated to buy for all dogs. Again, this is up to the gift giver.
