Description:

I'm going to try to host a magic yarn ball swap for each month... I just love magic yarn balls... thank you to everyone that participated in the past swaps...

for this swap, you will make ONE magic yarn ball.... try to make the theme of the ball match your partner's profile... BUT it doesn't have to!!

you could also just do a theme that relates to the month..... november = thanksgiving december = christmas january = new year february = valentine's march = st. pats day ETC

i just don't want to limit these swaps to a theme... b/c so many people on this site may be able to do so many other things on their own!! I've never seen such an amazing group of crafters... (HORRAY swap-bot!!!)

please don't use cheap 100% acrylic yarn... OR put cheap things IN the yarn ball... make something nice... something you'd LOOOOVE to receive!!!

you can search google or flickr for magic yarn ball pics/ideas

here's a place to upload your sent/received swap-bot magic yarn balls http://www.flickr.com/groups/1583757@N22/ thanks momwithahook!!

there are some WONDERFUL ones out there!!!

you could also include a pattern that would go with the yarn you send.... you could use just one larger skein of yarn... or two small skeins. or, imagine a beautiful hand tied skein!!!!

it's all up to you!!! this is senders choice

What type of thing do you put in your yarn balls?

cinderella730 01/15/2011 #

some ideas are candy, buttons, stitch markers, stitch holders, pins, fun colored pens, ribbon, any other small notion that would be great for a knitter/crocheter/needleworker :o) anyone else have any good ideas???

always a great idea to search Magic Yarn Ball on flickr... lots of great ideas there

I may have to join, I have some beautiful hand dyed wool yarn that I dont have anything planned for, to be honest I am not sure what to do with it :/ Maybe someone else would have an awesome use for said yarn!

geekchickrys 02/15/2011 #

what about nice acrylic yarn?

cinderella730 02/18/2011 #

definitely ask your partner. or check their profile. some people are very happy with a nice acrylic yarn, others just can't stand to work with it.

everyone has their preferences, what they like, what they don't like. being senders choice, you can send what you want... but, as you know, the best thing to do is ask your partner, or check their profile!!! :o)

cool ok! i just wanted to make sure. can't wait to partner up!

Just checking ... Do we take a ball of yarn and re-roll it while incorporating little gifts in between the wraps? I have looked at the pictures on flickr. I haven't come across this before in the UK..

Rachclute 02/28/2011 #

I have a beautiful hand dyed wool I will be sending! :D

cinderella730 03/ 1/2011 #

yes, rosiefsw re-wrap the yarn into a ball, but while you are wrapping, add little gifts in here and there. it's so much fun to either unroll it right away when you get it, and get all these cute gifts, or wait until you knit or crochet with the yarn, and then little gifts pop out here and there as you are working. :o)

I am picky about yarn-just as most of us are-I don't want acrylic yarn AT ALL or eyelash stuff..I send premium skeins & hope to receive similar :) Partner-check my PF please :)

That is a lovely pic. @cinderella730 I just had someone contact me via FB about your October Swap so I referred them to you - I think they will be new to swap-bot but I gave them your name and the link to this swap.

Can't participate in this one but I'm hoping for April or May.

I'm addicted to these- they are so much fun to assemble....and even more fun to rec!! lol- you just never know what hidden treasures are inside!

patumma 03/10/2011 #

I am totally addicted thanks to the fact that my first one was totally awesome!!!!!!!

geekchickrys 03/12/2011 #

what if your partner doesn't have a well filled out profile?

geekchickrys 03/12/2011 #

the most acrylic i send is a mix. a LOT of people are allergic to animal based fibers so i keep acrylic, bamboo, and cotton blends on hand.
