Description:

Well Christmas is here and gone? Recyle the gift wrapping from a Christmas package and make a postcard. Please embellish and do more than just cut paper into postcard size. Be creative. Use a piece of left-over box as a sturdy support for the paper. I have found that covering the postcard with clear contact paper helps keep everything safe in the mail. Covering it with contact paper is up to you.

Please spend some time and send something you would like to receive.

Nice idea for re-using wrapping paper, but aren't there regulations against sending items with embellishments that stick out in the mail because of the sorting machines?

I'm asking because the gold piece in your swap photo looks like it isn't a flat embellishment, and I'm wondering if the embellishments for this swap should be flat, or if your intent was for any kind.

You are allowed to send PCs with embellishments - it just might cost you more to mail, so you should take it into the PO and also ask them to hand cancel it.

Really? I thought that was a problem because of the machines, but I guess if they hand cancel them, that cuts out the need to pass them through the sorting machine?

Good to know for the future if I ever think of adding embellishments to my postcards. :)

Thank you TerryF for answering the questions. The embellishments are the reason I cover each postcard with contact paper.

In the US you can send a non-machinable mail piece, PC or letter for an additional 20 cents up to an ounce. Each additional ounce is 17 cents more. Do drop it off at the counter and ask for it to be hand canceled, your postal clerk will appreciate the effort!

Also if you're indoubt about something getting stuck, because they still do get sorted, tape over them!
