Description:

I will send the participants a blank paper doll, well the doll parts, that is. The participants will assemble their paper doll and decorate it. You can use paper, cloth, feathers, buttons, sequins, ribbon, fibers, paint, markers, crayons...ANYTHING you choose to decorate your paper doll. I suggest that when you assemble the parts, you use brads so the doll's parts can move. Let me know if you need brads and I'll include some when I send you the paper doll parts.

How you decorate your doll is your choice, but do keep in mind your partner's likes and dislikes. Since we all know one another this will be fun. You might like to make your doll look like your partner...or yourself! Those are just suggestions - do whatever you want with your doll. But do be creative and don't be afraid to get wild with this!

Once the partners have been assigned, I will send each of you a paper doll. Any questions?

will eyelets work instead of brads?

loricritt 12/31/2010 #

I've seen eyelets used with jump rings.

karlyn 12/31/2010 #

I'm all atwitter with excitement!

ChinaCat 12/31/2010 #

Sure, eyelets ought to be fine. I just thought it would be cute if the arms and legs and maybe even the head could be moved into poses - so you can play with your doll! =)

These paper dolls I'm sending you guys are kind of weird. They're heavy card stock which is nice. But they seem to have some extra pieces other than the obvious body, arms, legs and head. Just use the pieces you want to use and discard the rest. I found these at a thrift store, no instructions included.

Extra parts?

ChinaCat 01/ 1/2011 #

Yeah, oval shaped pieces. Maybe they're necks or bases or something.

I can't wait! This sounds like a lot of fun. :-) Thanks Robin for setting this up!!!

Yay, fun! I saw in my email that there was a new group swap created but couldn't come see what it was because of the stupid computer issues. Thank goodness that's finished! A fun twist to this swap would be to send our partner (the one making the doll not the one sending to us) materials that have to be included. I did an ATC swap like that and it was such fun! I'd meant to go back to the thread and suggest that for this one but, alas, computer trouble. Can't wait to see the doll and who my partner will be!

Robin, are you gonna wait till partners are assigned to mail the dolls or go ahead and send when we sign up? can't tell I'm excited, can you?

ChinaCat 01/ 2/2011 #

I can send them now. I thought about that today actually - might as well send them. If any of you decide to drop out of the swap, just keep the blank paper doll for another time or whatever. But nobody is going to drop out, right? =)

Hey, I love that idea, Ellie! Let's do that next time though. I really like paper dolls, so I hope to host another one later. We could say something like "You will send your partner (the one making your doll) five items that they must include on the doll - a button, a bit of ribbon, a small key...WHATEVER YOU CHOOSE!" Hey, I like that idea a lot. Next time, ok?

grimmlynn 01/ 3/2011 #

I love that idea! If I can remember to get my scanner out before I start working on this one, I am going to scan the doll pattern. At the very least, I will make trace out a copy so I will have that.

I'm sending the dolls out tomorrow. I would have sent them sooner but I misplaced them for a few days and had to hunt them down. Gah! Feel free to do whatever you want in the way of using the pieces as they are or not. You might want to change some of the parts (like add a fish tail instead of using the legs to create a mermaid or whatever). That's fine! Do your own thing, ladies. It's all good! =)

ChinaCat 01/ 9/2011 #

I wanted to add one more thing. Disregard what I said up thread about extra doll parts. There aren't any extra parts. The arms and legs have two parts to them. You'll see when you get your doll parts! =) The finished dolls are going to be large! I suggest you fold them up using the brads so they'll be easier to mail, but that's up to you guys.

dreamerkins 01/13/2011 #

yay! mine arrived today! I can't wait to play with it! it's glossy.... ooo.....

ChinaCat 01/16/2011 #

Have you all received your doll parts? I hope so. Let me know if you haven't. I do have more of them. Aren't they fun? I told you they'd be big dolls!
