Description:

This swap is for ATCs made with the beautiful fall leaves that are so in abundance right now. I have pressed many leaves, and made some paint chip ATCs using them. The paint chip ATCs turned out so nice I thought I would try a swap that focuses just on the leaves. So international swappers can join in the fun, leaf rubbings, sketches, drawings, painted leaves, etc. can also be used. As mentioned in the discussion below, real leaves cannot be sent to or from international swappers. We will make 3 ATCs for 2 partners, for a total of six. This swap is for swappers with a 4.8 or higher rating, and is international.

only problem with this is that leaf & plant matter is prohibited to be sent/received in Australia. I think it's the same when sending anywhere overseas. Perhaps you could change the swap a little so instead of using actual leaves, you could include leaf rubbings, sketches, drawings, painted leaves, etc - just an autumn leaf theme? Or just make it US only. :( I'd really love to join this myself, but I live in Australia..

Strawberry, thanks for bringing this to my attention. I was completely unaware of this. I would love to edit the swap to include other leaf forms so you can join the swap. Stay tuned. Again, thanks for the heads up. Terry

More on international swaps:

I have edited the send date, allowing more time after partners are assigned, so artists will have time to create accordingly. If there are questions, please let me know. Thanks.

I'm not aware of any similar restrictions to or from the UK. As a matter of interest, how do they know that you are sending/receiving such small amounts of plant matter in Australia? Surely they do not open every package!

That's an interesting question. Strawberry...can you help? Also, I will try and get more information. Thanks for asking.

I did some research on sending pressed leaves to Australia and the UK and found the following:

Australia does indeed check goods arriving at international mail centers. “Quarantine officers, x-ray machines and detector dogs screen all of the 150 million items of international mail sent to Australia each year, intercepting around 80,000 high-risk items. One of the items listed as being quarantined is leaves.

As for the UK, I found that “Plants and parts of plants require import permit issued by the appropriate Agricultural Department in UK.

So there we have it.

If your swap partner is from Australia or the UK, you will have to use another art form for depicting your leaf. If from the United States, feel free to use the real thing.

I hope this helps.
