Description:

Cake bunting has been making the rounds in the craft blogs recently, so let's try out this craft for our group! This pretty craft dresses up your cakes and pies with cheery pennants, and would be lovely for any spring table.

For this swap, you will create mini cake bunting for your partner! We will be using fabric pennants so that the bunting may be re-used again and again, and you should receive your cake decoration in time to use with Easter goodies.

You may use this tutorial to make your bunting if you wish, though you can probably figure out what technique works best for you. Your bunting doesn't need to be exactly like the ones pictured there, but the general overall appearance (shape of the pennants, idea, etc) should be similar. Your fabric bunting may be sewn or neatly put together with fabric glue or fusible webbing. This is a sender's choice swap to surprise your partner, so feel free to make the craft your own with pretty colors, embellishments, etc!

Your bunting should:

  • be neatly made with fabric or some other re-usable material
  • consist of at least two strings across (a double row of bunting, as pictured in the swap photo)
  • be at least 10 - 12 inches across to allow for a slight drape
  • include two bamboo skewers or other similar supports
  • should include at least two flag colors in the design.

Please make sure your bunting is adequately protected for mailing. This should be a relatively easy, inexpensive swap to make and send, so hope you'll be able to join in on the fun!

Cute. Too bad I don't know heck about sewing with machine or otherwise. :(

@Tatsu Awww...you can always host a non-fabric bunting swap, too!

littlebluestar 03/22/2011 #

I have see some tutorials using fabric glue or fusable webbing, must these be sewn?

thehappyhoneybee 03/22/2011 #

I don't have a problem with using fabric glue or fusible webbing, just so long as it's neatly made. I'll clarify in the swap description. :)

I will probably dig out my sewing machine, I just wanted to be sure :) Thanks!

Leashah 03/23/2011 #

I can't sew, either!

Sorry ladies, I was SO looking forward to this swap! Things are a little tight this month so I'm hanging back and dropping out of a few swaps just to be sure I don't get into a bind. I do hope you host this swap again! Hope it goes wonderfully for you guys!!
