A group swap for just us…and a super easy one at that. Woot! As you may or may not be aware, one of the first things you’ll encounter in most (if not all) Shinto shrines is the torii gate. A torii gate separates the secular world from the divine. To this end, torii have become the internationally recognized symbol for Shinto, like the Star of David is for Judaism. So, here’s an easy swap to get you REALLY looking at torii gates. I want you to do just that. Go out on the web and search for torii. Find three to send to your partners, and of those three, explain to your partners which you like best and why. It doesn’t need to be an essay, just a simple, isn’t this gorgeous? is good enough, but more is better. Sincerity is key. Keep an eye on what appeals to you and why; which building material you like better and why; does size matter to you; color; location (on land, water, mountain top, etc); season; something I didn’t think of? What is your ideal? Immerse yourself, even if it’s just for a few minutes. This is your time. |
