Description:

This is a private swap. All invitations have been extended.

For this swap you will have 1 partner & will be creating a fabulously exciting envelope book for them. What is an envelope book?

  1. You will create the actual book by taking at least 4 sheets of 8.5 x 11 cardstock and folding them in half. (Or cutting them in half.) Either way you will have an 8 (or more, if you so choose) page book.

  2. Bind the book. Sew it, lace it - just make it pretty & sturdy.

  3. Glue envelopes of all shapes, sizes, designs onto the pages of it. Handmade is great, but what's really important is to have a fun variety.

  4. You will then fill each envelope with fun things for your partners. Anything goes - stickers, notes, ATCs, buttons, misc. embellishments, ribbons - really & truly anything.

  5. Mail it to your wonderful partner!

This swap doesn't need to cost much money. You can use items that you already have.

1 partner + 1 book = super fun!

Wow sounds like fun - anyone got a pic of what they're supposed to look like??

Kessie 11/10/2007 #

I was a bit worried about where I would find cardstock that measured exactly 8.5 x 11 inches - but now I've discovered that America uses a different standard paper size In England our paper and card stock usually comes in 'A4' size which I think is slightly smaller. Would it be OK to use this? I don't think it will make much difference to the overall size of the book or how much stuff I cram into the little envelopes!

Also, I've never made a book before - can anyone suggest a good website for advice on how to bind the pages together?

TerryF 11/10/2007 #

I don't want to assume since I am not the host, but A4 would be just fine with me since it is almost the same as 8.5 x 11 anyway.

There are many ways to bind the book. Here are 2 examples - there are tons more if you google "making+books".

Ok, I feel stoopid now. It turns they are almost the same (A4 is 8.3 × 11.7 inches). I was trying to guesstimate before, but it turns out that inches are a lot smaller than I thought! So it really doesn’t make much difference.

Thanks for the links Terry. I've been googling as you suggested, and now I'm overwhelmed with the number of different kinds of books there are - can't wait to get started!

RoseHips 11/11/2007 #

Use whatever paper would work best for you. The measurements def. don't have to be exact or anything.

OrigamiGrace 11/16/2007 #

Um, are we supposed to do the back and front of each page? That'd make the book = 14 pages + front cover and back cover! Just wanted to check as I started cutting and pasting....then thought to ask, lol!

RoseHips 11/18/2007 #

I think it would be cool for each page (front & back) to have envelopes on it. Not every page needs to have tons of tiny ones on it, you can have pages that have just 1 big envelope on the page. Remember, they don't all need to be brimming with fancy/lots of stuff. You can put a note in some, favorite quotes, an envelope of fortunes... It's just the fun of having so many surprises. Hope this helps!

tangledthreads 11/19/2007 #

That would be 4 sheets of cardstock that makes 8 pages of fronts and backs right??

RoseHips 11/19/2007 #

Yes. 8 pages of fronts & backs.

tangledthreads 11/20/2007 #

Thanks!

raven 11/22/2007 #

Rainydaygirl yours is on it's way..Hope you like it, it's really really stuffed full with stuff that hopefully you can use..Raven

OrigamiGrace 11/22/2007 #

Duh, I cut 8 sheets of paper, that's why my math is off -- hehe, having a senior moment:)

RoseHips 11/23/2007 #

Wow Raven! You are amazing to already have yours finished!

rainydaygirl 11/27/2007 #

Holy cow, Raven! I haven't even started thinking about mine, yet. Probably won't til my Christmas break...

Will everyone post pics of their books when they receive them in the gallery up top so we can all "ooo" and "ah"?

raven 11/28/2007 #

It's just my way of doing things,I can't help it.. I can't be late at anything. My grandpa always said that I would be early for my own funeral, because I wouldn't want the mourners waiting on me ..(ha ha )..As soon as I sign up for a swap I start making it, by the send date I always have it ready..The bad part is I can never sign up for a profile swap this would drive me crazy, or maybe just crazier...It's my curse

rainydaygirl 11/28/2007 #

I got my book from Raven today! Thank you so much. It was lovely. I still haven't gone through all the little goodies. :)

OrigamiGrace 12/13/2007 #

I finished mine today so winemakerssister - you'll be getting mail! Hope you enjoy it - I had a lot of fun making it. I'll post pics after you receive it, so I won't ruin the surprise!

TerryF 12/24/2007 #

RoseHips: I just noticed that you have changed the send by date from January 14 to March 1. While I have no problem with this, a pm or email would have been appreciated as not everyone checks the swap page regularly once they have signed up. Thx.

TerryF 02/17/2008 #

kiki, your book is all ready to mail but we have a major storm heading our way tonight and tomorrow - it might be Tuesday before I can get it mailed.

WaldeckDryGoods 02/18/2008 #

This sounds like lots of fun... will you be hosting another one of these swaps--- and can I join you?

rainydaygirl 02/20/2008 #

Terry, yours went out on Friday. Hope it doesn't take too long to get to you.

DreamHope 02/26/2008 #

OrigamiGrace: Your envelope book is on its way. The project got a little crazy - I hope you like it! (I'll post pics to the gallery if I can, so don't peek if you want to be surprised!)
