We all love playing with yarn and the toys that go along with it. What better way to spread the love than with a magic yarn ball filled with great little treasures :)
So what is a magic yarn ball? It is basically a ball of yarn stuffed with little gifts for your partner to find as she continues using it for her knitting and/or crochet projects. What a treat :)
For this swap you will need to use:
1 x 100g skein decent quality yarn. Do not send dollar store scratchy type yarns - assume that your partner would use it to make something soft and cuddly. You will be unrolling it and rerolling it to hide the surprises inside, so include the label in the swap as it will have all the needle / hook / tension etc details on it. Yarn must be new / unused.
At least 20 small gifts (variety of 8 different items) inside the ball. These are the little items you will be hiding in the ball for your partner to find as she goes along. Ideas for gifts at bottom of page. Gifts to be usable in wool-crafts (tools or deco). They must be tiny enough to dissapear in the ball so that the ball just looks 'fat' for a 100g ball. The items can be new / gently used / thrift store finds. No dirty or broken items. Send a list of the items with the ball - this will aid your partner in rating you upon receiving the magic ball and not when it's done and all the prizes discovered.
Little gift ideas (please feel free to add to the list in the comments):
- charms
- official stitch markers (not scraps of wool or paperclips)
- unique / special buttons (yarnl must fit through holes)
- unique / special big chunky beads (yarn must fit through hole)
- mini scrappy yarn balls of alternative colour wool for embellishments / decor - At least 24 inches / 60 cm per mini ball
- bells (yarn must fit through hole)
- tapestry needles (wrapped up to avoid accidents)
- pieces of rolled up ribbon / lace - At least 24 inches / 60 cm per piece
- eyes for soft toys e.g. teddybear eyes or black buttons used for ami eyes (not paper brads)
- tiny measuring tape
- tiny pen/pencil and notepad for scribbling (will make a good 'centre' to reroll ball onto)
- a treat size chocolate (will make a good 'centre' to reroll ball onto)
- crotchet hook (will make a good 'centre' to reroll ball onto)
- mini knitting needles (will make a good 'centre' to reroll ball onto)
What you need to join:
4.95+. No recent 1's or 3's. No nonsense (like constant late sending and drama). I think everyone in the group is okay, but if I have any questions I'll ask.
More than a month from sign-up to sending. This is sender's choice, but looking at your partner's profile might inspire you on colours etc. Send what you will be thrilled to receive.
Be kind and respectful towards to your partner. Rate fairly. Communicate before late sending (in real emergencies) and rating down. Package well for postal systems rough handedness please.
Any questions? Fire away :)
As this is my first magic yarn swap & I would love to get tips / corrections. I am pretty new to yarn crafting as well, so any help will be appreciated on terminalogy / yarn types / more giftie ideas etc.
