This should be a really fun swap if you like yarn and surprises. IF YOU HAVE NEVER MADE ONE THIS IS THE TIME TO TRY YOUR HAND AT IT.......NEED MORE INFO? PM @Deeno1105 or post in comment section below. *****EDITED SWAP DATE AND SEND DATE!ON 6/28/11******

We will be making a Magic Yarn Ball. This project originates from The Children's Year (Hawthorn Press).

If you've never heard of a Magic Yarn Ball, I think you'll find this to be really fun. You will unroll one skein of yarn and re-wrap it into a ball hiding cool little treasures throughout the ball as you wind. Leave a few of the little goodies peeking out. You should use one full skein of 4-ply worsted weight yarn (Red Heart, Caron or similar brands).

Wool is not advised unless your partner agrees or requests it.

Your yarn ball should have at least 6 small items hidden inside not counting the small gift in the middle where your wrapping begins. Round toys or small boxes with a goodie or two inside make great centers for starting your ball. Once you finish wrapping up your goodies, don't forget to decorate the ball with a pretty ribbon or whatever you'd like to use.

The fun part is when you begin your next project and the unraveling begins, the items fall out and you won't be able to quit until you get to the next trinket and so on. Or if you just can't wait (the curiosity gets to you), you can unroll your yarn ball as soon as you get it to see the surprises awaiting for you. Some ideas for goodies to wrap in your yarn ball:

magnets, erasers, cute paper clips, buttons, scrapbook papers, ephemera, charms, beads, stickers, recipes/recipe cards, small memo books, handmade items, craft supplies. (You might want to put small items like charms small buttons or beads in a snack baggie before wrapping), teas/coffee/drink mixes, seeds, crafty or cute stuff or anything else you want to share that is in good, usable condition. Have Fun With It!

Feel free to post below in comment section if you prefer a particular color of yarn or the fiber you like. It doesn't mean you'll get it since it's sender's choice but you just might get lucky.

Just remember:

1 full skein 4-ply worsted weight yarn, a surprise in the center, at least 6 goodies wrapped up (more if you like) and finish off with some sort of ribbon, bow or some kind of decoration to give it a finished look. It would be nice for you to include the label from the skein of yarn you used so your partner knows the care instruction, color, etc.

Again, this IS sender's choice but it might be nice to check your partner's profile for likes, dislikes, allergies, interests, etc.

YOU MUST HAVE A WELL FILLED OUT PROFILE!

Newbies welcome to join with 4.9 rating and well filled out profile (more than a paragraph including all info your partner will need to make this Yarn Ball).

If you have any questions please feel free to PM @Deeno1105 or post in comment section below. Enjoy!

I think Yarn Balls are awesome, I am just learning about them!

Hi! I've got a question. ( So whats new I hear you all say ;>) I'm in U.K. so we have different names for lots of things and yarn is one of them. Is worsted weight the same as double knitting wool? The kind you would knit a sweater with or is it finer than that? What we call 4ply is extreemely fine, like what you would use to knit an exquisite very fine baby shawl.

@kmug ......it's really easy and looks like so much fun. Please join.

@Gofeen Worsted weight is 4 ply but can't contain wool unless your partner wants wool. A lot of people are allergic to wool (me). Example of a popular yarn brand in the states is Red Heart. A Super Saver skein has 8 oz (225g) per skein. You would probably use some type of yarn that you would crochet or knit an afghan with. I hope that answers your questions. If not, ask me again. If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to ask. I hope you'll join the swap. I can't wait. I'm already collecting little items to wrap.

It looks like fun but I'm going to pass this time around. Hopefully we'll try this again and I can join it then. :*)

I have no preference in color of yarn as long as it's worsted weight with no wool.
Thanks!

I just wanted to thank all of you for joining my first swap (with the help of @pedal2u for posting it up).
