"There is a Mayan story that tells that when a person can not sleep due to worrying, can express their worries to a Worry Doll and place it under the pillow before going to sleep. The Worry Doll is thought to worry in the person's place, thereby permitting the person to sleep peacefully. The person will wake up without their worries, which have been taken away by the Worry Doll during the night" For this swap you will make 6 worry dolls for your partner (6 is the tradition number). I made mine out of matchsticks (I'm pretty sure they're illegal to mail) but you can use anything you fancy, toothpicks, pipe cleaner, wire, whatever you like. Make them small (about 2 inches). They can be as elaborate or as simple as you like, this is senders choice. Traditionally they come in a little wooden box, but due to shipping costs I'm going to make that part optional. Have fun making your dolls, there are a couple of great tutorials on the web! I shouldn't have to say anything about flaking, JUST DON'T! |
