Description:

For this swap you will be buying a journal or a nice spiral notebook (5 inches X 7 inches minimum size and at least 60 pages) and making at LEAST 20 entries. Each participant will choose ONE of the topics I've listed below, and will do a study of that subject in their Bible. You will find at least 20 Bible verses on your chosen topic, and make an entry in your journal/notebook, including that verse, its location, and at least 100 words on what that verse tells you or means to you. More verses and longer entries would be great - these are just guidelines to start from. Entries can be handwritten or typed, and if you are one of those talented people who want to make your own journal with embellishments, etc., feel free to do so rather than buying one.

You will have 1 month to complete your journal and I'll add a few days to that to allow time to mail it to your partner. I'm making this swap INTERNATIONAL so you might want to keep that in mind when picking out the journal or notebook you will use.

Here's the subjects you may choose from:

  1. Hope

  2. Peace

  3. Love

  4. The Miracles of Jesus

  5. Women of the Bible

  6. Faith

  7. Angels

You can use whatever version of the Holy Bible you prefer. If you want to participate and don't own a Bible, there are many on-line. You don't have to be Christian to do this swap, but you must have a sincere interest in studying one of the above subjects in the Christian Bible.

Okay, so that's 1 journal with at least 20 entries, to 1 partner, and 30 days to do it. You will receive a journal from another participant with at least 20 entries on the subject they have chosen.

Please, when you send your journal, do not send tracts or denominational literature. If you want to include extras, some stickers or a bookmark or something like that would be great to include.

You can sign up for February's Swap at http://www.swap-bot.com/swap/show/9566

You must have a 4.6 or above rating, and at least 3 snail mail swaps completed and rated to participate. No more than 1 no-send. If you have any questions, contact me, okay?

What if your partner, the one you receive the journal from picks a subject you aren't interested in? I am just thinking why would I want a book on one of the subjects I am not interested in? Is there a way to let your partner know you would not like one or two of the themes? I think it would be more of a "learning" thing if I do one I am interested in and receive one of interest back?

I'm not meaning to be negative at all, this sounds like a great swap!

Karen 11/29/2007 #

Hi MissPrincess, Welcome to the swap! I tried to pick a variety of subjects that would be of interest to almost anyone. If you want to post 1 or 2 subjects that you aren't as interested in, you are welcome to, but please remember that your partner is not obligated to follow that. My feeling on this is that even if I'm not especially interested in the subject the other person chooses, I will enjoy reading the verses they've chosen on that subject and their thoughts on those verses.

MissPrincess 11/29/2007 #

OK I get it, I'll try and keep an open mind then! LOL!

You ahve me hooked, I joined the Journey #2 also!

tamipal6 11/29/2007 #

This is a GREAT idea! Thanks for hosting this swap! I'm looking forward to doing this!

tamipal6 11/29/2007 #

Can we type it up on the computer and make our own little journal/book out of it or do you want it to be handwritten?

CelestialFreak 11/29/2007 #

Having arthritis and mostly only every typing now I have the same question as tamipal6. I know there is a certain beauty to handwritten things, but for me it's also very painful. Clicking on the keyboard gets my thoughts out with less rubbing of my hands! LOL! So I'd love to know if typing and binding my own is OK too. I'd for sure add embellishments and decorate when appropriate. Just thought I'd run all this by you before I go and sign up. I'm interested in both swaps if I can type them. Might get me in the mood to pull out all my old textbooks from Bible college! Please PM me with your answer.

Typed entries are fine! Also if you want to make your own journal with embellishments, you can do that, too. I've added that info to the description. Thanks for asking about it!

Thanks, Karen!

I think this is a very nice Idea. This will make me really follow thruogh with a study. I have picked a topic and will see what I can do with it before signing -up. You will hear from me later. The Roadrunner

I'm very excited to do this. I only ask one thing - I did a journal swap before and got one that i could NOT read (and I'm a teacher). If in doubt, please type!

CelestialFreak 11/30/2007 #

THANKS KAREN, Now I feel like I can join!

beaglemom 11/30/2007 #

I am not too sure about this swap, but I have a lot of time and it sounds like fun so I am going to try it.

halfwaythere 11/30/2007 #

Is there any objections to starting now and having it ready when partners are assigned? It would fit in well with my current Bible study.

Karen 11/30/2007 #

halfwaythere, I don't see any reason you can't go ahead and do it now if you want.

ariel91 12/ 2/2007 #

I'm glad you said we could start now if we wanted. I decided I was going to study one of these topics just a few days ago. Now that I joined, I don't have any reason not too. Thanks for making this swap Karen!

Karen 12/ 3/2007 #

Ariel91, That's great! Thanks for joining!

Karen 12/ 3/2007 #

Just want to say thanks to ALL of you who've joined. I was surprised to see so many sign up this soon. :)

Just in case someone wants to know... I think Moleskine 5x8 1/4 moleskines would be perfect for this. They have 80 pages, are small and lightweight so would not be much to send overseas, perfect for altering if you are inclined and you get a 3 pack for about $11; which is perfect if you are in the second swap too.

Anyone have any tips for printing/binding journals that have been printed? Or links for such things? Thanks!

I'm in!

Would a paperback journal (handmade) be acceptable?

Karen 12/30/2007 #

A handmade paperback journal would be fine! :)

vintageartchic 01/ 8/2008 #

Hi Karen!

Thanks for hosting this swap! I had already decided that my first extended Bible study of the year would be about Women in the Bible...so this will jump start my studies! This was an EXCELLENT idea!

MissPrincess, your envelope is on its way from Michigan~! I hope you enjoy it.

halfwaythere 02/ 1/2008 #

Gatorsmom, I should have yours done tonight and out by monday. I'll post again if it changes, otherwise expect it by the end of next week [hopefully]

madtatter7 02/ 6/2008 #

Veronica aka Vernzap...I am running a little behind because we just got back from our Grand Canyon trip. I don't quite have 20 entries yet but am working on it. This turned out a little more difficult then I anticipated but I had a lot of fun. Thank you for your patience.

Hugs, Linda Russell

Veronica aka Vernzap...I sent your package out this morning. Sorry it was late. This was a little tougher than I anticipated. Hope you like it. I had a lot of fun studying.

Hugs, Linda
