I am a stay at home mom right now, on sabbatical from being a project architect. It can be honestly said that parenting is much harder than any other job, but it is also more of an avocation than a job, right?
My husband is also an architect (we tend to come in pairs).
I joined Swap-bot because I like making things for other people and sending stuff out. Good stuff, I hope.
I dabble in many crafts. I am into knitting now, but also enjoy jewelry making, ceramics, sewing, and embroidery. I also draw, paint and do printmaking-- but it has been a while.
I am not interested in scrap-booking. Sorry.
Favorite books, over time: Immortality/Milan Kundera Madame Bovary/Flaubert Count of Monte Cristo/Dumas East of Eden/Steinbeck (most anything by Steinbeck)
Mysteries: Just finished the Man From Beijing by Henning Mankell, a really good read. Am starting the Steig Larsson books, which I have put off way too long. Also a fan of the Jack Taylor mysteries by Ken Bruen.
Children's books: Too many to mention, but think Kate DiCamillo is a must.
I have yet to hear music I don't like.
Current favorites include: The Swell Season, She and Him, The Avett Brothers, Jack Johnson, Coldplay
Always favorites include: Alison Krauss, Elvis Costello, The Beatles, Gypsy Kings/Paco De Lucia, Gilberto Gil, Johnny Cash, Van Morrison, REM, The Pogues (punky Irish...)
I like a wide variety of things, especially things that have to do with the crafts I like: thread, fabrics, yarn, beads and buttons. I am addicted to mechanical pencils and interesting pens in general and will collect them everywhere I go/travel. I like small/tiny containers, especially boxes and jars. And then there are-- old objects with no discernible use, the miscellaneous advert card or travel photo, bits of trim or doily.
My family has traveled quite a bit, including trips to Japan, China, Jordan, a lot of the US and a lot of Europe. See URL above.
