Who Am I? (sung to the CSI intro tune, Who Am I?)
My name is Anne and I'm 45. I live in the southwestern desert of the United States.
Personal:
First and most important to me than life itself are my two girls, who are nine and seven. I love being a mom and have no problem being identified as my children’s mother. :)
I am married to my best friend. He is funny and delightful. He works from home, making it easy for him and I to team up and homeschool our girls. We thoroughly enjoy this part of our lives and wouldn’t trade it for anything!
Absolute favorite color is hunter green, but most greens are pretty as long as they don’t have too much yellow. Second favorite color is a purple-gray. I do like a lot of the colors that have a gray tint to them. :)
Reading: I’m a read-aholic! I read anything from self-help, how-to, biographies, autobiographies, mysteries, fantasy, sci-fi, anything but romance novels or religious stuff. I just finished The Wheel of Time series, then two books on Dyslexia. I always have a shelf full of books that I’m going to get to… As I take down, more go up! lol ;)
Hobbies: Nature. I love nature! If I’m stressed, I go for a walk on a path near a lake across the street from us. It grounds me like nothing else can. I love all aspects of nature: Animals, sounds, and calmness.
Art is a passion of mine. Various kinds of it, from drawings, paintings, chalk, watercolor, oil pastels, clay, and more. Recently, our family got on a fairy door making kick. We used all natural materials that we found lying around the yard and made the most adorable, fun, fairy doors. They are up all over the house, inside and out! Anything allowing me to be creative is a joy!
Cooking - I am 100% a foodie! I love the process of cooking and baking. We’re talking completely addicted. I love to cook various ethnic foods and would like to try ones I’ve not tried (yet!). I bake all of our bread and most of our food, as we like using fresh foods.
Sewing: I enjoy sewing, but don’t have the time to devote to it that I’d like. I especially like quilting. Memory quilts are my favorites to make.
Gardening: I love, love, love to garden!! I am limited with time, so only maintain a small herb garden for cooking. Usually have a tomato plant too. I wish I had more time for this, as I truly do enjoy it!
Building: I love wood! I have this thing for trees and wood. Going to a building supply center and smelling the wood gives me an all-time high like nothing else! I enjoy making things from furniture, sandboxes, to tree houses. My favorite way of building things is to re-use material and make turn it into something new. For example, we used wooden pallets to create a large, fully enclosed treehouse for our girls! Or another example is when I took two doors, one solid oak and the other glass, cut the oak door to the same size as the glass door and inlaid the glass to fit on top of the oak door. Then put that on top of an old wooden work bench frame. That’s our dining table! Fun!
Psychology: Humane nature is a huge fascination to me. I enjoy reading about psychology and how it effects us. I love people watching! We’re such fascinating creatures! :)
Games: Word games are my absolute favorite. I also like strategy games or role playing (love role playing - table top!).
Writing: OMG! I love to write! Especially topics dear to me. I’ve actually been published too! Wahoo for me! I have a thing for textured papers and pens. The feel of the pen as it glides across the paper is absolutely amazing! I know, I know. I. am. so. weird! lol :)
Music: My absolute favorite is old jazz. old meaning 1930-1950's. I love that stuff!!! Then there's modern jazz, blues (new and old), 70's-80's country, soft rock, opera (soprano mostly), Barbara Streisand type genre, 90's hard rock, willing to try new stuff. Love music in general, but not a big fan of rap or stuff like that. Tend to like more smooth, flowing music. :)
Collections: Favorite animals are bears, especially black bears, but all bears are dear to me. I have a collection of small stuffed bears, each one has a name and a special meaning to me. For example, when I met my husband, I bought a bear that reminded me of that time. When we got married, I bought a set of bears to remind me of that time. For our wedding, we had ring bears that held our rings. Yeah, I’m crazy like that!
I also collect wooden spoons. The kind that look like they’ve been hand carved or look like they have a story behind them.
Collect glass and / or wooden buttons.
Favorite food: All of them! ha-ha :)
Love teas, but cannot have any caffeinated ones.
Love chocolate, even though it has caffeine in it… I just eat it in small amounts!
Things I want to try / learn: Skydiving! Felting, read music, play an instrument (piano or sax), knitting, crocheting, carving (I’ve always wanted to learn to carve bowls, spoons, and little creatures). Any craft, art, or anything that lets me create something. Traveling so I can learn about different cultures. People fascinate me. I like anything that teaches me something new, whether it’s a book or a picture or anything else.
Things I need to stay away from: I have fibromyalgia and my senses are sensitive, as typical with fybro. Artificial scents really set me off: Perfumes, laundry detergents, fabric softeners, anything artificially scented. Anything noisy. I know it sounds weird, but it stresses me too much.
I have to admit, doing this has felt weird. I’m not used to talking about myself so much! LOL
