Hi, my name is Lizzy. I live in the Netherlands.
I work as a translator and subtitler, so my day job is a mix of all kinds of tv shows (some terrible, some great) along with commercial and marketing texts, and very complicated academic texts about art and art history. You know, for variety.
I have an adorable scruffy rescue dog named Deeks. His hobbies include getting people to pet him by looking cute, walking along the very edge of the sidewalk, stopping to stare whenever a city bus passes, and barking at the urban foxes that live near us.
I'm a very big fangirl. I like to geek out over stuff, whether that be books, movies, or TV shows. My biggest fandoms right now are Leverage and Julie and the Phantoms.
I joke about how I'd be hipster, but I'm not cool enough. If there is a cute cafe with industrial vibes, vegan cupcakes, lemonade from mason jars, a lot of people wearing plaid, and too many plants, I am Here For It.
The one movie I can watch over and over is Coraline. I love the story, the music, and the gorgeous style and aesthetic of the movie. I may own a star sweater and bright yellow rain coat because of this movie.
The childhood movie I watched over and over was Ferngully. I bought the multi-lingual dvd a few years ago and now know the songs in both Dutch AND English. (Dutch always wins for the nostalgia factor, though.)
Marvel movies were a biiig part of my life, though these days I'm so behind. My favourite is Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
I watch a lot of shows, most of them casually while doing other things.
My top favourites right now are Julie and the Phantoms and Leverage.
Other favourites include: Hawkeye, 9-1-1, Good Omens, Gilmore Girls, Heartstopper, She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, Anne with an E, Z-Nation, Person of Interest, and so many others.
I also love watching Youtube Videos while I draw or scrapbook. My favourites are Worth It, Buzzfeed Unsolved and Ghost Files, and 'draw with me' or 'journal with me' type videos. I love Cheyenne Barton, Drawing with Waffles, My Little Journal, and Mango Street's channels.
I have to admit that these days, I read a ton of fanfiction, so there's less time for new books.
My favourite genres are science fiction and dystopian stories (give me a good zombie apocalypse any day), along with modern fantasy. I love YA lit.
I read Maggie Stiefvater's The Raven Cycle and I absolutely loved it!
Other favourites are: Catherine Jinks' Pagan Chronicles and Charlie Higson's The Enemy series.
Favourite comic books are Matt Fraction's Hawkeye series, and Ms Marvel.
I love to draw and paint. I like to use watercolours, coloured pencils, and sometimes alcohol based markers. I just got a drawing tablet, so I'm learning how to use that.
I keep a scrapbook that I fill with photographs, bits of ephemera from my life, and a whole lot of decoration, doodles, writing, and other fun bits and pieces. I make a spread for every week, because I have the memory of a goldfish and I want to be able to look back and remember what I was doing (and, in 50 years, laugh at how uncool my hair/outfit was compared to the future fashions.)
Favourite colours: yellow, dark red, dark green, mint green, light blue, and copper/bronze colours
Favourite animals: dogs, raccoons, capybaras, foxes, squirrels, otters, sloths, dinosaurs, yetis...
Favourite season: Autumn
Send me this and make me happy: fandom things, journaling cards, washi, stickers, tiny envelopes, ephemera, list pads, art you made, handlettering, puns, pictures of your pets, patterned paper, hand knitted/crocheted things, stamps, feminist stuff, cute socks (EU size 39), nerdy things, fanart, pins, patches, your zombie apocalypse plan...
Favourite types of prints/themes: Galaxy and stars, dinosaurs, dogs, polkadots, cryptids, zombies and apocalypse, autumn, grid patterns, cacti and succulents and plants
Got stuff with swearing on it you don't want to send to your relatives? Send it to me, instead. ;D
Tea: I'm actually not a tea drinker, I just like having an interesting assortment for when my friends visit. So, please send me your personal favourite, a cool local flavour, and/or your weirdest flavour, if you can!
Please do not send me: religious things, food, scented items, glitter and glittery items, anything weight loss or diet-related, pink, butterflies, anything with frogs and toads (I'm terrified of them!)
Allergies: I'm lactose intolerant, and have so many food intolerances it's not even funny. Also allergic to cats, but that should be fine as long as you don't send me things made from your cat's fur. ;D
