I like a variety of music, but tend to lean toward jazz (straight ahead and be-bop especially) and electronica (trance, especially)
I have always read a lot. I tend to lean toward classics, especially the Realists such as Zola, Balzac, Dickens, etc., but also really enjoy light "detective" reading such as Stephanie Plum series, Sue Grafton, Dennis Lehane, James Lee Burke. When I was a young girl I fell in love with Lewis Carroll, especially Alice Through the Looking Glass (that's the story that's a chess game, too), and his essays (did you know Lewis Carroll, aka Charles Dodgson, was deeply religious, a photographer, and a mathemetician?
I like independent film and "gangster" and cop movies -- anything by Scorsese!. No Disney, please! Would rather see blood and mayhem in "Gangs of New York" than have to vomit over a stereotyped, giant eyed princess in "Alladin" (ugh! throw up!)
I watch Mad Men, Breaking Bad, Weeds, Dexter, Homeland, Boardwalk Empire, POV, Independent Lens, Frontline, and the Amazing Race.
I'm pretty eclectic in my crafting. Since I have a degree in fine art, I welcome any opportunity to express myself. Photography, collage, mixed media, jewelry making, sewing. I've tried knitting and crocheting, but somehow don't have the patience for it. lately I've been making boxes and books and sewing stuffed animals and baby wear. who knows what I'll do next.
I've been off swap bot for about a year. When I had participated earlier, there were a lot of handmade postcard swaps and chunky book swaps. Where did these go?
I'm an artist/art historian/museum director, so it's pretty easy to guess that much of my life revolves around the visual arts and higher education. My work is demanding and often requires 10-12 hour days and weekends, I'm trying to find a way to reconnect with myself and my creativity.
Additionally, I've spent most of my life in major metropolitan areas, but this job has put me in a smaller environment than what I'm used to. I'm having a hard time finding people with whom I have common interests.
I have cats, love the kitty cats, garden, I am a first-time homeowner, I hike (miss those California mountains!), travel whenever possible, I'm beginning to explore the world of DIY (new home!), and when I can find the time doodle around in my craft/sewing room just kind of putting things together that meet the mood of the moment.
Orange and Fuschia, Turquoise, Aqua, Willow Green, Mango. Mediterranean colors. yum
Quality Beads -- I make jewelry when I have the mood but, I don't have a good bead-store in my community (I'm limited to Michaels and Hobby Lobby), I miss the bead stores in San Francisco and other big cities.
Big Turn Off -- While participating in a chunky page swap, my partner sent me a piece of paper with a cardboard circle and a piece of yarn pasted on to it. She hadn't even made the page -- "my boyfriend was curious about swapping so I let him do this one." I was really angry. I spend a great deal of time and effort making items I swap and will not send out anything that's not professional quality. I hope my partners share this same sensibility.
I'm really beginning to appreciate paper-craft and am most enjoying making postcards (I hope the recipients of these enjoy them!)
I love making postcards!!! Why do the ATCs have to be small? hmmmmmm
I would prefer to receive nothing than to receive something cheap or poorly made -- see above.
To whoever draws me as my swap buddy: I have some skin allergies to lower quality scented lotions, I love any kind of chocolate, I can't have caffeine, am always on the look-out for new, funky artsy magazines (I currently read ArtNews, Art Forum, Art Lies, Cabinet). I stay away from spice scented candles (I like lighter scents, such as melon, ocean, rain, spring, etc.), I like contemporary, streamlined styles more than busy, Victorian styles. When I do go for patterns, I like modern geometrics and pucci inspired patterns.
I'm a somewhat large sized woman, 5'4", size 16 pants (the girls are 38DD).
Please send a message if you want more information about me!
I also have an Etsy shop with whice I haven't had too much success - it's the marketing, being an administrator all day, I would rather make than continue working the business side. You can see some of the things I've made at the Etsy shop GreenOnionsTextiles
I switch from one project discipline to another, so this is why I have handmade purses, children's clothing, baby gear, stuffed animals, woodblock prints, etc.
Can someone tell me about the new flickr features? It's been a year since I've been an active swapper and looks like there are some new additions I don't understand.
Let's do some good swaps!
I'm looking for advanced skill, unique thinkers to swap with me.
I LOVE private swaps!!
