Hi! I'm recently widowed, the wife of a retired Navy man, and have lived all over the world. Both of my children are married, and I just got my first grandchild, William. My son's a Nuclear Power tech in the Navy, my daughter is loving being a stay at home wife. I'm a Christian, lead a wild group of Middle School girls on Wednesdays and help with our food bank. I grew up a farm girl from Colorado, which I still think is the best state in the country! I'm also a former Elementary school teacher, thinking of going back to get a nursing degree, so I can be freer to travel. I love the outdoors, hiking, gardening, bird-watching, etc. I enjoy cooking or baking, though I don't do much now that I'm on my own. Reading and writing are passions of mine. I also like to travel or at least read about places I'd love to go. I enjoy sipping hot tea, eating fresh homemade bread, sitting on my porch listening to the birds, and thunderstorms. I also love fruit, flowers, trees, music, books and my awesome family. I love life and learning new things. I love to write and recently started a blog called A Book with a View @ www.abookwithaview.blogspot.com. I currently have two dogs and a cat, but am really a cat person.
I love classical music, especially Bach, Vivaldi, and Mozart. I also like folk, classic rock, hymns, Christian, show tunes... I play the piano, oboe, flute, guitar, and dulcimer. I recently started the violin, which I'm loving.
Life without music would be awful!
This is very hard for me. The Bible and Knowing God by Packer are two perennial favorites. I love the classics. I enjoy new authors, mysteries, adventure, some fantasy, literary fiction and those classic kid's books. I also read a lot of non-fiction, especially history, travel, and memoirs. I'm a big fan of poetry, sonnets, lyrical -- just about anything. For example, Robert Frost, Milton, e.e. Cummings... I don't read strict romances, (it's OK if another type of book has romance, too, of course). I also don't read vampire, erotica, New Agey or books specifically critical of Christianity, etc. I like older mysteries, with fascinating characters, an unusual setting, or particularly tricky puzzle. I;d like to read more authors from the Golden Age of mysteries, other than Christie and Sayers. (I have all of those!) I would be thrilled to get childrens or young readers books or story collections. I seem to be collecting unusual ABC books without even planning to. I guess it's the teacher/artist lover in me. Growing up my favorite book was Little Women. I think one of the best books ever written was A Tale of Two Cities, and a favorite non-fiction book is Into Thin Air.
I like romantic comedies like You've Got Mail, historical dramas, action/adventure if it's not too bloody or profane, and kid's movies. I've been known to re-watch movies just to see the snow, mountains, storms, etc.
I can't get TV where I live now, so I watch it on Netflix, etc. I love good cop shows like Law and Order, CSI New York, and Criminal Minds. I also enjoy the History Channel, Discovery Channel and HGTV.
I'll try anything and enjoy it. I especially enjoy -- knitting, crochet, quilting, and scrapbooking. I'm also re-learning counted cross stitch and needle point. Anything nature/landscape is a hit with me. For scrapbooking I use a wide variety of colors, including solids. Solids with coordinating prints are always welcome. I'm still going back and trying to catch up my grown kids, a boy and a girl, so there are few things I can't use. I keep my pages simple and focus on the pics, using mostly basic colors. Stickers, letters, etc are always welcome.
My favorite colors are green and yellow. For my home and clothes I use a lot of natural and Fall colors, or rich jewel tones. Most of the rooms in my home have ended up painted either sage green or khaki/tan. But I pretty much adore anything except orange. (Love terra-cotta, though.) As far as fabric choices, I'll enjoy anything, though I'm not a fan of orange and black together or Halloween prints. I guess I especially lean to nature, seasonal, elegant prints, and kids stuff. But I really want a selection of fabrics including things I wouldn't think of picking up for myself. So feel free to surprise me, OK? But please, only 100% cotton quilting weight/type fabrics, as I mostly use fabric in quilting. Thanks.
Books, especially the classics. Colorful, pretty or historic stamps. Bookmarks. Free quilt or cross stitch patterns. Gardens and gardening -- all kinds. If it grows I want to try it, read about it or look at it. Travel, and thinking about it and planning it and dreaming about it... Birds, butterflies, moths... Woods, mountains, the sky. Nature in all it's forms. Words, typefaces, handwriting, written music. Tea, baking and cooking for one or two. Teapots and tea cups. Great art -- from ancient to more modern. Jesus My family.
