My name is Lisa and I just turned 40 this year!! I am a stay-at-home mom. My son is 5 years old. I have been married to my DH for 16 years.
I graduated from UW-EC in 97 with a degree in geology and cartography. I was very excited when we moved to Colorado because the mountains provided me lots of rocks to study & explore. I have lots of different & interesting rocks strewn about the house & property. It drives my husband crazy :)
My favorite colors are blue, red, pink, any bright color...I guess I like most colors except for brown.
I love all chocolate, but especially dark chocolate. My favorite food would have to be pizza, although cold cereal is a very close second :) Classic Coke is the perfect drink. My favorite dessert is Red Velvet Cake.
I have a thing for refrigerator magnets and key chains. I love Star Wars especially the new animated series...Star Wars: The Clone Wars
I enjoy Sudoku and Kakuro puzzles.
I love quilting!! I have lots of quilts started in various stages. One half of our basement is filled with all of my quilting stuff. I have bins full a fabrics and yet I love going out & getting more :) I decided that 2009 was to be the year that I finish up some of my quilts. I guess I'd better get busy on them!!
I am currently working on a making a Dear Jane quilt. If you have never seen this quilt, you really owe it to yourself to check it out at www.dearjane.com For my Dear Jane quilt, I need fabric with small patterns because the blocks are only 4 inches.
My favorite kinds of fabrics are...
I am trying to collect at least 3000 different 3" squares so I can make a Grandmother's Flower Garden quilt using my charms. My GFG will look a bit different from the original - every petal on the flowers will be different and there won't be any paths. The flowers will be right next to each other. I am going to buy Brandy's Mylar Hexagons
I just counted all my charms today (5-19) and I have 2200 charms!!! I am happy that I have finally reached 2000 but I am sadly lacking in certain colors.
Here is the breakdown of charm colors...
So if you can help me out in the color categories that are under 250 I would certainly be grateful.
I am in the process of saving up 30's fabric. I totally love the old-fashioned look of them. Every time I think I have found the perfect pattern to make, I open up another quilting magazine and find a better pattern :) Maybe if I get enough 30s fabric saved up I can make more than one pattern!!
I would love some wide rick-rack!! I have seen several 30's quilts using the rick-rack and it really enhances the overall look!!
Stuff I DON'T like in fabrics...
I absolutely love the 80s!! Denver has an all 80s station on HD and I just love it. My next favorite kind of music would be music from the 30s & 40s. As for my favorite artists...I love Frank Sinatra. I have tons of his CDs. I have all of the Carpenters albums - I remember listening to them when I was just a kid. I also enjoy Jazz...I mean real jazz not that new age stuff.
I love to read!! My favorite subjects are... sci-fi/fantasy, classics, thrillers, historical fiction, and anything else that tickles my fancy. I must have a stack of 40 books sitting on my nightstand!! I am a voracious reader, so I like to have lots of books to choose from.
Currently my favorite author is James Rollins. I have all of his books thanks to paperbackswap.com. If you have never heard of this site, then you really owe it to yourself to check it out. It is without a doubt the most awesome site for reading fanatics.
The only magazines I subscribe to or buy are quilting magazines. There is nothing I enjoy more than getting a new magazine and drooling over all the lovely quilts. I must have upwards of 100 quilt magazines that I'm saving because someday I might make the quilt I saw in it :)
I have 2 passions for things that I collect... postcards and stamps.
I have been collecting postcards my whole life. My favorite subjects to collect are...
Check out the links at the top of my profile to see which US state maps I already have and which US and world map postcards that I am looking for. If you can help me out with my map wish lists I would be eternally grateful.
I am always up for private postcard trades :)
I really prefer store bought postcards. I dislike free cards, ads, art, people, animals. Please only send 4x6 postcards please.
A few years back I got into collecting stamps. I have the American Heirloom albums from Mystic Stamps to hold my American stamps in. I have gotten lots of stamps off of eBay.
Trading postcards in envelopes has really helped out my foreign collection of stamps. I need to get an album so I can start organizing my foreign stamp collection.
I would really love it if people would use commemorative stamps on things that they send me in envelopes!!
I don't get much chance to watch TV between my husband and my son, but I do enjoy...Heroes, Chuck, Fringe, Bones, History Detectives, quilting shows, professional football & baseball. The History Channel and the Science Channels often have shows that catch my interest. Thank goodness for DVR :)
I love to watch professional football!! My favorite team is the Chicago Bears - GO BEARS!! This is difficult to admit, but I married a Packers fan :) I am completely happy wasting a Sunday just watching football - doesn't really matter what teams are playing.
I also love to watch the Colorado Rockies baseball team. We try to attend a game or 2 every year.
A few years ago I got into making candles. I have a few different molds (square, heart, and votive), but would certainly love to get some more. I would love to get some more color chips and scents.
I'm not really an outdoor person, but I do enjoy gardening. I love buying new plants & seeds to try. I just got finished planting a bunch of tomatoes, peas, jack-be-little pumpkins, jalapenos, & flowers. I still need to plant some green beans. My favorite part of my garden is my rose bed. My favorite rose is called Moonstone. The flower is gorgeous but unfortunately it has no scent. Who on earth would create a rose with no scent?!?
Along with gardening, I love canning foods. We have such a small yard that I can't grow very much, but the farmer's market provides all that I need. We love to make homemade salsa, corn relish, pickled beets, pickled green beans, different types of jellies & jams. I don't have a pressure canner (although I would like one), so I have to stick to things that can be canned using a water bath.
I totally forgot about another hobby that I share with my husband...we love boardgames!!! We have over 300 games in our collection. Most weekends we try to get together with friends and play games. During the week we try to squeeze in a few games in the evenings after our son has gone to bed. Speaking of our son, we are getting him into playing games as well. There are lots of great kid games out there!!
