Swap-bot has taught me a few very interesting things about myself. The first is that I utterly loathe having to be creative to a deadline! The second is that my unruly creativity rebels at being told what to make. When I set out to design something, everything good I can come up with is completely unsuitable for the thing in question. These were interesting discoveries for me! However, when combined with straightened financial circumstances, I find that they add up to swap-bot not being a good match for me.
I am "owed" several parcels and several ratings (although neither of those circumstances are relevant to the above paragraph), and certainly continue to rate whatever comes in.
I'm a PhD candidate in early American history. I quilt and weave and do a wide variety of types of needlework, plus a jumbled assortment of other crafts.
As I learn more about swap-bot I will add to this profile, but for now I hope it is sufficiently filled in to be considered "complete." I have a bad habit of starting too many projects at the same time, especially considering that these days I'm supposed to be writing a dissertation, so alas, I'm being VERY strict with myself about how many swaps I'm allowed to sign up for!
Crafts I do: weaving; quilting; cross stitch; hardanger; black work; quilling; stamping & embossing; decoupage; bargello; scrapbooking
Crafts I don't do (yet): knitting; crocheting
likes & dislikes I don't like heavy scents, I do like lights scents like single florals.
I tend to prefer simple designs - my scrap book pages are simple, not cluttered, for example.
I don't actually enjoy doing cross stitch (I seem to like planning better, LOL!), but I seem to do a lot of it anyway. Usually for gifts.
Love tea, can't abide coffee, even the smell.
Love chocolate, but not with nuts, which I'm extremely allergic to.
Colours: tend to prefer light to dark or bright, not really partial to orange... but everything has a place.
What I read: classic British mysteries such as Sayers, Christie, Wentworth. A handful of modern American mystery authors: Braun, Hillerman, Evanovich, Gilman. Children's & YA, and lots of it, frequently vintage such as Steatfield, Jean Webster, Rosalie Fry, "Carolyn Keene," "Laura Lee Hope," L. M. Montgomery, Maud Hart Lovelace, and Carolyn Wells. The whole Ph.D. thing means I also read a lot of history, usually American but also modern European diplomatic, ancient British, Holocaust, ancient Hittite, and some smatterings of other stuff. It also means I almost never read modern historical romances. And for some reason it has come to mean that I rarely read any modern fiction. I do, however, also love Jane Austen, deeply. So, umm..., yeah - can you tell I read a lot??
