I live in rural Virginia in the Blue Ridge Mts. with my cat and guinea pig. I love nature and am surrounded with woods, birds, deer, racoon, and other critters. I am a pen addict (ink and paper too), a book-a-holic, and read a great deal. I also love art supplies and doodling. Snailing lets me travel while staying at home with the cat, who doesn't like cars or strangers. I belong to an Anthroposophical study group, a Sun readers' group, and a women's spirituality group. I have a long neglected blog, but do intent to get back to it someday. Other interests include crafts, aromatherapy, psychology, dreamwork, journaling, and gardening. Ok, that's enough!
I have fairly eclectic taste from classical to folk and indie. My son has helped me expand my faves and he even likes some of mine! Right now I am listening to The Decemberists, Deva Premal, and Natalie Merchant - quite a mix. The only things I can't tolerate well are rap, hip-hop, and country (though I do like some of the crossover folks, like Emmylou Harris and Lyle Lovett).
Sci-fi is my great escape. I grew up on Asimov, F&SF, and Analog - still have my father's collection, which I gave to my son. He has introduced me to the 3 B's and Cherryh, who I'm reading now. On the serious side, I like books by Rudolf Steiner and other Anthroposophical writers, books on Buddhism, and art/craft books. I just picked up "Uber Origami" at the library today.
I stopped watching TV in 2001 for some reason. I didn't have time or patience. Then they did the change where you need the little converter box I don't have. When someone mentioned that he watched old TV shows online, I did some link hopping and found "Forever Knight" and got hooked. Most recently I've been watching the DVD's of Babylon 5. But that's about it.
Mail Art, watercolor, sketching, used to do acrylics, stamping and calligraphy - just a few current favorites. When I lived in Hawaii I wove baskets and small birds, boats of coconut fronds. Have made coiled baskets and other woven baskets, but no time any more. Ditto for needle craft - used to do cross stitch, needlepoint, crewel, embroidery, macrame, crochet ... never got good at knitting. I have done some wood burning, leather work, and block printing. I made jewelry and tried to support myself for a couple of years doing craft fairs. Now I mainly decorate letters and envelopes when snailing.
