My name is Jennifer (or Jen), and I'm 21 years old.
Born in Hong Kong, I came to Auckland, New Zealand when I was six, and have lived here since. At the moment, I'm studying in university (BA majoring in Psychology and Writing Studies). My original aim was to go into clinical or health psychology, but recently applied and didn't get in, so I am re-evaluating and am still not sure what my next step will be.
My interests include reading (and beta-reading), writing, books, arts, manga/anime, psychology, getting involved with people and causes. I love writing and words all my life, and the arts in general, though I can't really draw (I do it anyway- I'm perpetually the kid who likes crayons and paint on my furniture). I also like teaching and working with kids and volunteer at my local St John Youth division, where I teach 'badges' and try to get my 13-18yos to do their work.
I am a complete Twitter addict and spend way too much time reading Harry Potter fanfiction.
Currently dabbling in all things writing, e.g.:
LIKES:
Books
Zines
Fanfiction
Harry Potter
Handmade/Artsy things
Words
Manga & Comics/Graphic Novels
Fairy Tales
Recycling things to use for something else (and calling it 'creativity')
DISLIKES:
I listen to anything that doesn't make my ears hurt (e.g. not too loud or metal). Having completely ignored music apart from my classical piano lessons, I 'discovered' music one day when I listened to A Fine Frenzy... I have a lot to catch up on.
A Fine Frenzy, Erin McCarley, Marit Larsen, Ingrid Michaelson, Demi Lovato, Selena Gomez & The Scene, Miley Cyrus, Cher Lloyd, George Watsky, ALLCAPS, Whomping Willows, A Very Potter Musical, Disney. There are songs that I adore the words and sounds of every line and there are songs I listen because it's makes me feel upbeat and light-hearted, or makes me laugh.
Musicals like Rent and Wicked, not like High School Musical.
My lifelong favourite author has been Tamora Pierce (I love her Tortall and Circle books!), although JK Rowling is definitely most inspiring. I have also been a long-time fan of Marissa Meyer (whose book, Cinder, hasn't actually come out yet!) back from when she was Alicia Blade on fanfiction.net and wrote a Sailor Moon/fairy tale epic called The House on Thornrose Lane.
Harry Potter. Actually, I don't think I really got into this until I started getting into the fanfiction two years ago, and now it sucks up ALL my time. I'm a little late into this, I know.
The Hunger Games is a great series, too.
Huh. I guess that means I tend to like fantasy and fairy tales, although I read anything and everything (nonfiction or fiction, novels or comics or poetry).
These fanfics also deserve to be on this list, although I have read and been influenced by a great many more: Harry Potter: Pet Project, Every Other Midnight, Rewind, Commentarius, Prelude to Destiny, The Problem with Purity, The Memory Box Sailor Moon: The House on Thornrose Lane, Bleed, Leather and Lockets, Subject To Change ...You may have noticed from this list that I like epics.
I am relatively new to everything craftsy, so it's colour paper, pens, stickers and random scraps at the moment. My strengths are in writing so I also like poetry/songwriting-y things. I'm getting started with zines and hope to start making my own soon.
Similar to music, I'm only recently catching up to TV shows (aside from Asian/HK dramas and anime which was my diet until 18). I love Doctor Who, Sherlock, Merlin, Sonny with a Chance. Also... forever Disney. And Musicals.
Movies. Currently? Summer Wars, The Time Traveller's Wife, How To Train Your Dragon.
