I am a university student entering my fifth (!) year at UW Madison. I am studying Elementary Education and Environmental Studies. My dream is to be a bilingual (Spanish/English) teacher in a large city...Chicago or New York are where my sights are set as of now :) I am very passionate about education, especially urban education, and mostly about education reform. We've got a lot of work to do in our country, and world.
I am also a passionate environmentalist. I love working on sustainability projects, and I try to do my own part in my daily life. I make a lot of things by hand, try to eat local and organic as much as possible, compost when I can, recycle religiously, try my hardest to never buy new clothing (must admit I give in once in awhile..), and am always looking for new sustainable practices to incorporate into my life.
I love being outdoors, in pretty much any way possible. I backpack, canoe, rock climb, hike, bike, swim, run, kayak, climb trees, explore. I also LOVE to travel. I am lucky enough to have been to quite a few different countries, as well as all over the U.S. I lived in New Zealand for 6 months and in Peru for 6 months as well. I have major wanderlust and am always itching to get back on the road. Where is the favorite place you've ever been? Where should I go next?! I'm always open to new travel suggestions :)
I love to cook, and EAT! I like knitting and am starting to learn how to sew. I am a writer and love poetry, and I love to read as well. I LOVE to dance, mostly salsa. I love to laugh and be loud and feel alive!
Just a random few: Ani DiFranco, Adele, Grateful Dead, Daddy Yankee, Norah Jones, Josh Radin, Mary Mary, Ingrid Michaelson, The Chieftains, Pink Martini, James Taylor, etc.

Knitting, a bit of sewing, learning more about scrapbooking. Does making your own kombucha count as a craft? Because that's one that I can do!! :D I also make homemade soap and laundry detergent.
I do like to craft but I am not an expert, so any materials are appreciated because it will help me learn to creatively use anything! I LOVE recycled art and would like to start doing more...so recycled materials are a plus. I like greens, browns, blues, and purples. I also like really bright, almost neon colors. I actually like pretty much any color so surprise me! :D Anything that you think a novice crafter could somehow put to use would be appreciated :)
Also, keep in mind that I am a future elementary school teacher so anything that I could make for a classroom or to use with children is a plus. Also, any materials that you think would make a good project for kids (aka giving me ideas for future classrooms!) would be great!!!

I see we have quite a few things in common, mainly the love of Nature, recycling/repurposing/reusing, and learning to sew! Your outdoor activities sound much more adventuresome than mine, though. I've never been rock climbing (first of all, you to have rocks to climb and there are no such things as rocks in Coastal Georgia, truly. I mean, not even little rocks. NO ROCKS, which is very difficult for me, having been raised in a rock-rich environment.) I have seen people rock-climb in Colorado, though, and I think I will stay being the one taking the pictures. :)
Our little town is considering a recycling program. We recycle but have to take our items to the Army post, about half an hour away. I really hope the experiment the city conducted of placing the recycling containers in one neighborhood worked to satisfaction. That would be great! I also love recycled art and use repurposed elements for my ATCs and other art.
Learning to sew. What do you like to sew? I took sewing in high school, but that was long ago. After a weekend refresher course in Savannah this winter, I went out and bought a new sewing machine. I LOVE this machine and am going to be sewing some wrap-around skirts this weekend. It is a VERY simple pattern, but also very flattering. Have you made anything recently? I've also had success with little zippered pouches.
I hope you have a great day and nice to meet you in this swap.

2 Truths and and Lie pc - I am so sorry to hear about the broken bones - yikes you poor baby!! I just wasn't sure which one to pick, but was hoping that you did not have broken bones! You sound very atheltic, so running the marathon might have been true! Hope it works out for you! Hugs and Happy Swapping! ;)
Hello!!! Someone else who loves to travel! What is the best country that you have been to? The best state? I am insanely jealous that you've lived in New Zealand...I want to visit there so badly!!! I also think it's great that you're so passionate about education! I'm hoping to be a schoolteacher myself someday and I would like to teach inner city - most people think I'm nuts when I say that but I want to make a difference and I think that is the best place or the most useful place that I could go. Nice to meet you!!! :)

Hi, I am also trying to live as green as I can, and I was wondering how you made your own laundry detergent?
I like your profile and how passionate you are about caring about the earth. :)
