Hi there,
My Name is Fiona, I am in my early 50's and live near the border of Scotland and England. I work as a RGN caring for patients with terminal cancer. I am married and we have four children in their 20's - 2 teachers, 1 Lawyer and a Mental Health Nurse.
Now they have all left home, I have more time to spend on my hobbies - Walking the beautiful fells of the Lake District near my home, also the Yorkshire Dales, my birth place. I also love walking on the coastal paths of Cumbria and Northumberland. I love the sea and the power of the waves in a storm!
I hope to do a pilgrimage walk next year - St Cuthbert's Way in Northumberland, or ultimately the Camino de Santiago de Compestela in Northern Spain - to take me on a spiritual journey, to learn how to be a better person.
I love baking, cooking curries and making marmalade and jam.
Trying out new recipes and having friends around for dinner, using local organic produce as much as possible.
I am passionate about protecting the environment and regularly help to clear the beaches near by from washed up plastics - you wouldn't believe what gets washed up!
I love knitting and pompom making - I helped make 30,000 pompoms for our local hospice to gain entry into the Guinness Book of Records! I try and do lots of Charity work for the local community - mainly making up shoe boxes for kids in Romania. Photography
Gardening - trying to get some veg to grow in the rain! Just planted some Sunflowers!! Favourite flowers are -: Roses Poppies Sweet Peas
I love to travel and this year we are visiting the Battlefields of the Ypres to remember family who died in the WW1 ( two Great Uncles) Cycling in Holland on the island of Texel too.
We have two weddings coming up this year so I'm busy preparing for those! Hopefully making most of the invites/cakes/place settings and collecting vintage china
My favourite music is quite a mix - I love Lambchop and Joni Mitchell, but also George Michael and Bryn Terfel, Billy Joel and Bruce Springsteen!
My favourite books are any travel biographies, especially about walking, and the Classics - I am working my way through the Penguin Classics at present. I also try to read the Man Booker prize nominees and any authors who have been reviewed in The Sunday Times.
I also love detective programmes such as Spiral and Hinterland.
I adore writing letters and I am really looking forward to sending snail mail around the globe! It will be a pleasure to receive all sorts of items through the post I will treasure every one. Thank you!
