As a child of the 70's and class of 1983, I love 70's-80's music and culture, but I don't collect it. Some feel-good things/connections for me include:
roasting coffee, pencil sketching, graphic novels (not so much black-page-gore, more zine-fun-scifi), steampunk, steam engines, fiction, chemistry, model rockets, sailing, solar energy, LEGO, good food like BBQ burgers, roasted peppers, fresh salsa, premium chocolate, Tiki anything, playing cards, camping, RVing, geocaching.
Real Genius, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Groundhog Day, TRON, TRON Legacy, The Matrix, Powder, Sideways, Airplane, Top Secret, 007, Amazon Women on the Moon, Princess Bride, Happy Gilmore, Tales from the Darkside, Christmas Vacation, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Breakfast Club, Endless Summer.
MSTK3K, Dr. Who (mostly 9th & 10th doctors), The Office, 4400, anything Joss Whedon (so YES BTVS, Firefly, etc.), Star Trek, Leverage, Psych, Lie To Me, documentaries, comedies.
Asimov, Crighton, Zalazny, Cussler, Wilber, Gibson, many others...
OMNI magazine, CB radio, MTV, surfing at Morro Bay, Tower Records, 1976 (Bicentennial USA!), Wacky Packs, The Wonderful World of Disney on Sunday nights, Bedknobs and Broomsticks, Jungle Book, Jean Shepard on WOR, CBS Radio Mystery Theater, Jonny Quest, MAD magazine.
I prefer postcards stamped and written ("naked").
I appreciate hand-sketches (pencil and ink) even from beginners, and I like to draw, too. (I draw to just get a little right-brain time in after spending all day on computers, I'm not an artist or very skilled.)
Postcard and drawing topics that would make me smile include: Nikola Tesla, Star Trek, Dr. Who, Magic/Magician, World War II, Wacky Packs, Manga, Hollywood, Hypnosis, Languages & Linguistics, Periodic Table of Elements, NASA and space, 70's NFL, Chess, Buckminster Fuller, geodesic domes, architecture, solar power, upscale playing cards, games, old-style sci-fi, comics, old-time codes and ciphers ("cryptograms" and such), puzzles.
