I love quilting. I'm not a particularly accurate quilter (yet) so I gravitate toward beginner projects, crazy quilting, scrappy designs that can be imperfect (like Bonny Hunter quiltville.com), or art quilts. My latest obsession is needle-turned appliqlue. I'm about halfway thru my first Baltimore Album quilt, all handmade. I plan to hand piece and quilt it. I love to take photos with my digital camera, alter and print out images and use them in my art quilts. I like to do occasional needlework, smocking, embroidery. I love to crochet. I'm a beginner knitter. I also paint (acrylic and watercolor), and draw (charcoal, pencil, colored pencil, pastel). I love collage. I am interested in bookmaking. I'm a lifelong journaler as well and have done a few altered books. I do a little scrapbooking, cardmaking and stamping. wishes: smocking patterns (more geometric than picture smocking); interesting and handmade paper; fabric: solids or vintage cottons or linen fabric, handkerchiefs; silks, hand dyed scraps for applique; strange, loud, or "ugly" fabric is fine as i am starting a scrap quilt; i like retro or handpainted fabric too. the more unique or strange the fabric, the more i like it (think buddhas in crazy colors, or swiss chard fabric...strange but i like it). interesting embellishments like beads, buttons, trims especially crocheted and tatted edging. my husband is a volunteer firefighter and i would like some firetruck fabric for him.
bluegrass, alt country, classical, rock. I have strange musical tastes. Range from Lyle Lovett and Emmylou Harris to George Clinton to They Might Be Giants to Prince.
Historical fiction (the adventure kind), asian history and culture; mystery; sci-fi and fantasy, non-fiction, comedy. My favorite authors are Bill Bryson, Christopher Moore, Tom Robbins, Asimov, Ursula K. Leguin. Lately have been reading Mad Scientists Club with my son. Wishes: Books with interesting covers or interesting illustrations for altering. Homeschooling materials, lapbooking materials.
I love watching movies and I like everything except extremely gory violence (although I can tolerate that in a gripping crime drama) and horror. I have a soft spot for weepy dramas, musicals and dance flicks, and "classic" comedy. My all time faves are Dirty Dancing, The Hours, The Silence of the Lambs, The King and I (I love every version).
Have recently been watching tv shows on dvd from Netflix: Twin Peaks, Nip/Tuck, Big Love, Six Feet Under, Sex in the City, Dexter. I don't watch a lot of network tv. I do enjoy Big Bang Theory, and my Sunday Soaps: Desperate Housewives and Brothers and Sisters. Also love Firefly and Star Trek Next Gen, but don't own a Star Trek uniform, lol.
I'm a college educated, atheist Unitarian Universalist stay at home mom of two boys, 6 and 3. My oldest just finished kindergarten at home, and we had a fantastic first year of homeschooling. I am a lifelong artist and crafter. I just love making stuff. I was involved in mail art swaps for a long time in college, before marriage and kids. Am always looking for fun new projects and new friends. My favorite colors are jewel tones: red, emerald green, burgundy, manganese blue. I love earth tones like browns and greens. Bright colors are fun sometimes too, especially with black. I'm not really into "cutsey" or "country." I tend to like more clean lines, modern design, simple shapes. I'm all about textures. I love anything that feels really soft and luxurious. My favorite art styles are art deco and pre-raphaelite, and italian Renaissance (think Leonardo da Vinci, Botticelli). I love Buddhas. I am a yoga devotee. I love gardening, nature, flowers, trees, birds.
