I a 35 year old woman and live in Northwest Montana with my husband, dog, and two cats. I work as a consultant to nonprofit arts organizations around the country so I still travel to cities quite a bit. We moved here three years ago from Miami, and I am still adjusting to rural life! The best part is that for the first time I have enough space to have my own art studio and enough free time to actually make work! I used to work exclusively on mixed media sculpture using found objects but it has been harder since I moved to Montana - people just don't throw good, interesting things away here! We do have great fabric and yarn resources though, so I have been looking in that direction this year and really enjoying it. I am off to Anderson Ranch (www.andersonranch.org) in June to do a digital/encaustic media workshop with the Artist Miranda Lake.
Lately I've been listening to the new Joan Armatrading, Keane, and Rufus Wainwright.
I read alot and watch tons of movies. Currently on the nightstand I have two books by Claire Messud, the Weetzie Bat collection by Francesca Lia Block, stitchery books like Contemporary Whitework, Stitchery: Free Expression, Amy Butler In Stitches and The Complete Guide to Altered Imagery. I like independent films with complicated emotional drama like Breaking the Waves, Breakfast on Pluto,Antonia's Line. Two long time favorites are Milagro Beanfield War and Out of Africa.
I'm not a big TV watcher - I prefer movies. But I will watch TLC's What Not to Wear, I also watch Martha and Oprah sometimes.
Contemporary fabric, fabric collage, vintage sewing, vintage fabrics and trims, free style embroidery, contemporary embroidery, knitting, handmade gifts, Cynthia Treen, digital photography, mixed media sculpture, found objects.
