Description:

I was lurking on craftster.org the other day and come across the "rapunzel scarf"

The basic scarf is braided from 30 pieces of ten foot yarn, ribbons, lace, fabric etc.

You will send 10 strands to 3 different partners. Each strand must be 10 ft in length

PLEASE SEND A VARIETY OF DIFFERENT TEXTURES- the more the merrier!

yarn (think novelty,handspun,variegated etc.)

ribbon

fabric

lace

When you get your strands, separate them into 3 groupings, tie a knot on one end leaving approx 6-8" in length, then just braid the three sections and tie another knot at the other end! SUPER EASY AND FUN!

Here is the website you can go to for instructions/pictures:

I do something similar to this but I use macrame knots and leave the strands with an open weaved look. I call it my gypsy scarf. This looks easier and I love the pigtail look of it. I am in.

Any jewel tones, purple, blue, green, white, pink. No red please.

Any colors would be fine with me with the exception of girly pink. For a color that I like the least, I somehow have a lot of it!

Favorites are earthy blues, greens, oranges, and browns.

happyturnip 02/ 7/2008 #

I would like blue, green, and red.

Next week I will have completed 5 swaps...can't wait to sign up!

mammadoo had a great idea....with the fabric you could connect strips to make up your 10 ft length if you need to, I think that would look AWESOME! I would think that you could cut the fabric strips to be anywhere from approx 1/2 an inch wide to 2 inches wide. The fabric would add wonderful bulkiness to our scarves!! I even seen somewhere on the internet where someone had created one with "ball fringe" as one of the strands!! Now, how COOL WOULD THAT BE?!! A person could get REALly WILD with this and even add beads, charms, etc!!!!

I love Jewel Tones. Bryanna

I agree with Bren (above). I like mostly earthy tones. I don't think there are any ugly colors. I am even one of those people who wears lime green and wore red with purple before it was popular. I am really looking forward to this swap as I love yarns, fabrics, etc.

I wanted to do a test of this before I joined. So I made one on Sunday. I wore it to work Monday and got compliments left and right. Soooo... I'm in. :)

Artistic 02/13/2008 #

My color choices: Anything that's earth toned or jewel toned. Thanks!

valleychic 02/13/2008 #

I like jewel tones but I don't want to limit anyone's creativity :)

kimberlees 02/20/2008 #

My favorite colours are blues and greens. I also like darker browns and black.

AmigurumiNymph 02/22/2008 #

I love the scarves that come out of these swaps! My favorite colors are green tones (minus seafoam! ick!), brown/earth tones (tan, brown, rust, cream, burnt colors, etc), and acromatics (think black, grey, and white). I'm also somewhat fond of deep reds (burgandy, dark wine colors) and all kinds of purples.

cerwinrhiannon 02/24/2008 #

I like stuff that is wild and crazy. I have tons of yarn, so other stuff would be coolest.

Neon colors, earth colors. Anything but blah colors or pastels.

YarnTails 02/24/2008 #

Wow, this is different. I don't like brown, rust, avocado or gold. Prefer purples, blues, and jewel tones. I have tons of yarn, so would like something other than yarn. However, whatever you have to send will be just fine!

cyph0r 02/24/2008 #

Since I don't knit/crochet this is perfect! I really don't mind any colors. The more colors the merrier. My favorite colors are in the blue/purple/pink shades. But for this one the more colorful the better :)

weyrmistress 02/25/2008 #

Preferred colors would be icy pinks, blue/greens and off-white. I have quite a bit of yarn so wild stuff would be cool.

dandelionmom 02/25/2008 #

I would love autumn colors-rusts, browns, golds, burnt oranges. This will be such fun!!

andysbabycakes 02/26/2008 #

I would like all bold bright colors..no pastels or neons please. The wilder the better!

E11enT 02/28/2008 #

I do something like this too although I call them Boas and crochet on a huge hook. You don't need 30 fibres because the crochet gives you bulk but you do use more length. Anywhoooo, I'm in.

I like jewel tones and funky colours but really...I'm up for anything. E.

gabrielleelendril 02/28/2008 #

Okay, I would love any colors, but green is my ultimate favorite color. Blues and purples would look great with green, so I'd say greens, blues, and purples, maybe in jewel tones? I'm really not as hard to please as I sound. Some random colors mixed in with a green-blue-purple scarf would probably add visual interest... :) Crystal

falseawakening 02/29/2008 #

Whoops, sorry. A little late, I almost forgot. Purple, Black, White

dandelionmom 02/29/2008 #

UUUUMMM..... Am I wrapping these around a cardboard or what?? I see many knots in my future.

Juliuslove28 03/ 1/2008 #

Hi! I like pinks, purples, blues, and greens! Hope this helps!!

Packages went postal today to my three partners. Enjoy!

bren 03/12/2008 #

I got my packages out today. To my recipients, I added a few extra strands in case a yarn just doesn't work for you and they are all bundled in a slip knot chain. A pic is in the gallery.

alwaysjoy 03/14/2008 #

I am sending my packages today - sorry they are a day late, I was trying to do something creative but I didn't finish in time. I included 15 or so strands in case you didn't like what I sent... I tried hard to match my partners likes!

alwaysjoy 03/27/2008 #

I am happily wearing my scarf today! I love it!!! I love how well the different colors mixed!
