This swap is great for beginner sewers...ONLY ONE SEAM!!!

For this swap: You will create 2 reusable t-shirt shopping bags for your partner. The instructions can be found here: (You will be asked to download the file):

www.sedgwick.ksu.edu/DesktopModules/ViewDocument.aspx?DocumentID=10953

This is super easy and fun to do. Either use your own unwanted t-shirts or purchase them at the thrift store.

Color choice/design is creators choice.... You will need to stitch AT LEAST a couple of times back and forth on the corner and bottom seam for strength and durability...We don't want our groceries busting out!

RULES:

SWAPPERS MUST HAVE AT LEAST 4.8 RATING

NO-SENDS ARE A DEFINITE "NO NO"

MUST HAVE AT LEAST 10 SWAPS "UNDER YOUR BELT"

This sounds great! :) I would have never thought of such a thing.. Although I'll probably use mine more at the beach then the grocery store! :>

ah. you know what? i would LOVE LOVE LOVE to participate in this, it sounds like just my thing, EXCEPT i'm nervous about sewing knits. i can never really make them come out quite right. maybe i'll go practice..

Is it USA only?

andysbabycakes 03/27/2008 #

these bags would be great for practically ANY use!! The beach bag idea is fab. Maybe try zigzag stitch first then straight stitch over that? anyone else have any suggestions?

NOTYOURPRIZE 03/28/2008 #

Your guess is as good as mine! :) Maybe some left over interfacing? NOOO CLUE LOL

I'd love to join but the Over 10 swaps rule is making me sad :-(

FINALLY a project for all those t-shirts taking up room in my closets! I hope nobody minds getting a bag with some kind of words, pictures, emblems or whatever on them because almost every t-shirt in my closet is printed with something. Most of mine are XL up to 3X, so these bags will hold alot. I will practice first using my serger because I would think we'd need a stretch seam or else the thread would break when the fabric stretches.

I am interested but having trouble with the link. Nothing comes up on the page even though it says done. Help....

InceyWincey 04/10/2008 #

I'm in, but I am definitely a beginner. I will do my absolute bestest, but just bear that in mind :O)

bluehairedmary 04/11/2008 #

Rockdiva, I had the same problem. I just googled t-shirt bag and found plenty of how-tos.

krisadair 04/11/2008 #

if you simply take off the last part of the link and go to the home page you will see the link to it at the bottom. It looks very easy.

And if you're not even any good with scissors, you could try using a vest type shirt. The handles are already there for you to use :O)

The link doesn't work as written You can go to this link and scroll toward the bottom and click the Tshirt file which is a pdf

Thanks for doing this swap...I've seen these and keep meaning to do some, maybe this will inspire me to create and get a couple of random bags in the process.

Just some thoughts on the making of these: If you use pinking shears to cut with and cut your arm holes off just outside of the armhole stiching it seems to hold up better. Also the neck hole (banding) makes a great headband and the sleeves could be sewn on the cut side and a tie or ribbon slipped through the hem and walla! a small little bag. One one of mine (it was a XL or 2XL) I did the seam on the outside on the bottom and left several inches of fabric, then snipped it with the pinking shears and then tied each set in a knot thus making a fringed bottom on that bag. I have photos posted on here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/swineme/2454062025/in/pool-swap-botswappics
