QnT Diamonds & Jewels quilt blocks #5 07-07-14 thru 08-01-14 These blocks are very easy to make and fun to collect. They look like snowballs with brightly colored corners, except we are calling them “Diamonds†instead of snowballs, and the 4 corners are jewel toned small print fabric pieces we are calling “Jewelsâ€. At our quilting bee at church we are making one of these quilts as a wedding present for a young couple getting married this year. Instructions: For the center Diamonds we will start with a 6 ½ inch white piece of fabric which can be all white or white-on-white print (good quality not see-thru-thin fabric) Then for the corner jewels cut four 2 ½ inch squares from brightly colored jewel toned-small print fabrics (the more variety of small jewel toned prints and colors for these 2 ½ inch squares the better) Use a pencil and ruler to draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of all four jewel squares. Step 3: Place the jewel squares on each of the four corners of the white diamond fabric square. Right sides together Step 4: Sew across each of the four pencil lines, backstitching at the beginning and end of each seam. Step 5: Trim excess fabric ¼†away from seams Press jewel fabric away from white diamond fabric, and voila! A Diamond and Jewels block 6.5â€. We will be making 4 each of these Diamond & Jewels blocks for two partners for a total of 8 blocks mailed each round. Be sure to make a set for yourself as well. Suggested Jewel tones: bright blues, greens, turquoise, aqua, reds, golds, yellows, purples, oranges, just about any color but no black, white, gray or brown and no pastels I’m excited to gather enough of these Diamond and Jewels blocks to make a quilt of my own! Questions are welcome, please post below or send me a PM. |
