QnT Mini Art Quilt Challenge

4-18-16 thru 5-18-16

--one mini art quilt

--one partner

I don’t know if you are like me and have accumulated lots of miscellaneous sewing tools, snaps, hoot-and-eyes, lace, gauges and buttons, over the years that maybe you have not found a good use for. Well, I thought why not put some of these “vintage” items to use decorating a mini art quilt!

Your mini art quilt should be at least 8 inches by 8 inches but not larger than 16 inches by 16 inches and it doesn’t have to be square. It should have a top, batting and backing. Please write your name on the back or put a label with your name on the back. I plan to hang the one I receive on my mini-art gallery in my cubie at work.

I am giving us a month to think about the project and gather the things we want to use before assigning partners.

You should use at least 4 of the following items in an interesting and decorative way on the mini art quilt. You may use more but at least 4 from this list. Be creative and do your neatest work, but most of all have some fun!

--vintage zippers (can be rescued from a retired garment if that look matches the theme of your art quilt)

--vintage Hooks-and-eyes

--vintage snaps

--vintage buttons

--vintage lace, trim or rickrack

--vintage fabric (reproduction if you don’t have vintage fabrics or don’t care to share them anyway)

--vintage seam gauge (you know that funny little metal piece with the slider you use to measure seam allowances---before we had these wonderful Omni-grid quilting rulers!)

--vintage frogs (they look like the closures on oriental garments)

--vintage belts and or belt buckles

--maybe even some vintage jewelry pieces (odds and ends you have in your stash)

--vintage tape measure

--vintage safety pins, old diaper pins, clothes pins

--vintage bits of embroidery

--and anything that fits the theme of your mini art quilt that I haven’t already suggested

Swap-on!

Wow i'm excited!!! I love making these little mini fabric art things! I can, but don't like a lot of more traditional quilting or quilt making... I just want to put the three layers together and embellish to my hearts content! I joined this group for the possibility of quilties and mini hangings! thanks for hosting...
