Description:

I am...communication and socialization challenged. This keeps me from joining any sort of correspondence or friendly chit-chatting sorts of swaps and interactions. Even simple postcard swaps make me nervous. I mention my social awkwardness/anxiety on my profile and from time to time get compliments from others who struggle with the same issues. I think there are quite a lot us out here as art/creativity is a great escape from these feelings of inadequacy.

Anyway. Enough with the preamble. I'd like to start hosting more “correspondence with training wheels” sorts of swaps for us introverted and socially awkward folks. Easy, straight-forward correspondence swaps that don't require 2 pages of chat recounting your day and a tea bag. Not that there's anything wrong with that, it's just not for me.

Does this mean that only self-identified introverts and misfits can join these swaps? No, of course not. Whatever you are, however you feel: join and have fun.

First up, a questionnaire! There are over 30 questions listed below (compiled from various sources). Pick 7 you would like to answer, then continue reading to find out what to do with them for this swap.

  • Would you rather have a unicorn as a pet or be a unicorn?

  • What is your most prized possession?

  • What is your least prized possession that you would love to get rid of but can't (for whatever reason)?

  • Who is your go-to Super Smash Bros. character?

  • What's your favorite smell?

  • Are you the good witch or the bad witch?

  • What’s one superpower you would NOT want?

  • What is your favorite section in the grocery store and why?

  • What is something commonly loved by all that you think is totally overrated?

  • If you had a nemesis, what kind of qualities would they have?

  • What are you proud of, but never have an excuse to talk about?

  • Would you rather have smelly feet or bad breath?

  • What has been the weirdest gag gift you have ever given someone?

  • What’s your favorite curse word?

  • What kind of dog are you?

  • What's your favorite sound?

  • What’s the most useless talent you have?

  • If you had to change your name, what would your new name be, and why would you choose that name?

  • What would you name your boat if you had one?

  • What do you like on your pizza?

  • On the first day of ruling the world, what would you do?

  • What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever done on a date?

  • What is your favorite song by your least favorite artist?

  • Where do you most hope to visit?

  • What's a musical artist/group you liked back in the day that you're embarrassed to admit to liking?

  • What animal might you have been in your past life?

  • Who is your favorite mythological god/goddess?

  • If you could instantly become an expert in something, what would it be?

  • What is your least favorite flower?

  • What one FOOD item is always on your grocery shopping list?

  • What is your most-used emoji?

  • At what job would you be terrible?

  • If you could either be a duck or an owl, which would you be?

  • You have an itch on your butt, inside your ear, and up your nose at the same time, which would you scratch if you could only scratch one?

  • WILDCARD: make up your own (1) question to answer.

The swap:

Take the 7 questions you like best and answer them on a sheet of paper. But don’t just write or type the answers - GET CREATIVE! Add cut out images, stamped images, doodles, fancy lettering, borders, stickers, different colors--go wild personalizing your answers and making it interesting for your partner to read. You can be as simple or detailed with your answers as you like. No judgements allowed.

This is being listed as a Type 3 swap and not a Type 2 because of the creative component. Please spend some time arting up & decorating your answers.

Write the swap title somewhere on your page (or on the envelope), fold it up and send it out! This is an international swap as it will mail flat easily with one stamp.

And please let me know if you're on board to see more of these swaps - even if you don't join this one! I'd love to continue hosting, but if interest isn't there, I'm not going to put in the time. 😅

I for one, love this idea! It is International so I very hesitant to join but this is one swap I think would be worth the extra cost.

Bhindblueeyes 07/20/2018 #

Deffff watching and interested. Going to get my dash down first before joining for sure. This is a freaking amazing idea!

Thank you, ladies!

If there's a consensus that this needs a US version for mailing purposes, I'd be happy to put one up (same questions & requirements). But I feel like this is a great opportunity for all of us to mingle together, US & abroad.

Heynowokay 07/22/2018 #

Could this be done in a mini-zine format? I think that would be really entertaining!

stephiedee 07/23/2018 #

@Heynowokay - I didn't think of that, but sure, why not. It's still a sheet of paper and will still get the arted up treatment.

RooBaRoo 07/26/2018 #

So, thanks for asking! YESSS !!! Please! I'm going out this Sunday, & only returning on 19 August (plus the Post office fiasco!), so I'm not joining this one, please do host another (& more!)

stephiedee 07/26/2018 #

@RooBaRoo thanks for the input!

I'm considering hosting this same swap again mid-late August. I think there's enough questions to have a second go at them. And that way those who missed this round will get a chance to swap.

sabbysteg 08/ 1/2018 #

stephiedee, it would be cool to do this in a postcard version too, with one prompt, just as an idea.

stephiedee 08/ 3/2018 #

@sabbysteg yep, that's a good idea. Thanks!

I'm just now seeing this swap posting having joined the group after the joining deadline, but I'd like to participate in any future swaps along this line of interest. I am a well seasoned weirdo for sure and have seasoning to spare. And I've previously made a nifty WEIRDO FLAG stamp that I'd like to use on the envelopes. https://www.flickr.com/photos/gracesanford/39724901350/in/dateposted/
