Description:

I would like to set up a swap where the members each make a tarot card, and put it on an ATC size backing. I would like to use the traditional tarot card classifications, i.e. King of Swords, 2 of Cups, etc.

Here's what I'm not sure I can do. I would like each person to get a tarot card from every other person. Your card can be photocopied from your original and then one sent to each person. For example, if 5 people sign up, you make one card, make 5 copies total, put each on an ATC backing, and send one to each participant.

This is a trial run, so I'd like to start with only 5 participants. If it works out well, I will run more.

I'd like people with ratings 4 and above. Any no sends will be considered on an individual basis. If you are a newbie and really want to participate, email me and maybe we can work something out.

This is my first swap here (though not elsewhere). If anything isn't clear, or you have suggestions, feel free to post them or ask me.

I would like to add that the picture above is an example of a card I have made (I'm making my own deck).

Also, the cards can be collaged, but be careful about using copywrited material.

Although we will be using the traditional card names, your interpretation is all your own, and need not be a clone of existing decks.

I've been thinking about this sort of project myself, so am happy to participate. Thanks for taking the lead!

Well described! Just to clarify the 5 places are they on a first come first served basis?

user6421 03/27/2007 #

I've been wanting to do my own deck, too, but it seems so massive that I have been putting it off. It will be nice to see what everyone else does!

Thanks for the interest, everyone. I would like to limit this swap to 5, for now, but am I able to do this? There wasn't anything in the guidelines about that. If so, yes it will be the first 5 who sign up. If more sign up, I will have to deal with it then. If anyone has suggestions, please speak up. I like to run a democratic swap.

Two more things, your cards can be made either the long way (as above) or the short way on the ATC backing (I hope that makes sense!) Also my thought is that you can pick any card you want. If more than one person picks the same card, that's fine. If this works I would like to run a bunch of these over time, and hopefully get a full deck. I also collect decks, and there's nothing cooler than a 1 of a kind collaborative deck IMO.

For another group I made some ATCs of a few of my cards, and it worked out really well. I just ran it off, then glued it to an ATC back with double sided tape, and put it in a plastic sleeve. It turned out looking pretty good. Not too hard to do either.

Any thoughts or suggestions??

Does anyone need any links for this? To tarot cards, or help in making them?

cerwinrhiannon 03/30/2007 #

There are five of us now. Good.

Anyone know what card they are doing?

My ultimate hope, if this swap works out, is to keep having 5 card swaps until a whole deck is made. That doesn't mean all of you here have to be in every swap. However after the first one I am going to take the cards that are done out of the choices, so as not to have any repeats.

You are a quiet bunch!

I want to do the fool. He's my favorite card

cerwinrhiannon 03/31/2007 #

The Fool sounds good. He's one of my favorites too.

what is a atc card

pjdoyle 04/ 6/2007 #

Since pixy613 will do the fool (0) I'll try the Magician (1)for my card. I am really looking forward to this!

An ATC card is a piece of-what-um help me out here guys, thin cardboard I guess, 3 1/2" x 2 1/2". Then you make or paste something on it, in this case your tarot design. Some people use small playing cards for this.

Do we want a plain back for the cards, or doesn't it matter?

I've signed on to do The Moon.

For the photocopying aspect, I imagine color-copying would be a good thing...and will we be mounting them on a card?

Yes, Brooke, mounted on a card.

PJ I received your Magician, and I love it! You're very talented.

I'll be getting my card ready to go tonight.

I received Chris's ATC -- #5 - the Hierophant -- very mystical! I've uploaed the image into the gallery.

cerwinrhiannon 04/27/2007 #

Glad you got it, PJ. It's not a popular card, so I thought I would get it out of the way. I'm going to post round #2 on the 30th. I'll try to email each of you before then, in case you want in and don't read it here.

Sending out The Moon tomorrow-

cerwinrhiannon 05/ 5/2007 #

Brooke, I received your Moon. I love it!

pjdoyle 05/ 7/2007 #

Brooke, I received your moon, too. Very serene! Since it hasn't been posted yet, I'll upload it into the gallery.

Still waiting for cards from Jessie and Jay.

Moominbrooke 05/15/2007 #

Glad you like the Moon! I still haven't got the Fool and the Tower.

Moominbrooke 05/15/2007 #

By the way...for the pillars I used two of the spires from Gaudi's La Sagrada Familia in Barcelona. The one on the left says, Excelsis and the one on the right says Hosanna in mosaic. Hard to see without a magnifying glass maybe...I didn't notice until after I'd glued 'em down.

pjdoyle 05/16/2007 #

I've been out of town for work -- I haven't received from Jessie or Jay either.

cerwinrhiannon 05/17/2007 #

I'll wait until the end of May to rate any "no sends."

Received Jessie's ATC -- I uploaded the pix -- you need to look closely, but the fool is hiding there -- nicely done, Jessie!
